As an older property in Snowmass Village, the lower-middle-range Lichenhearth Condominiums got first dibs on a fantastic location near the Elk Camp Gondola and within walking distance to the shopping area at the bottom of the hill. The downside is that the 18 condos now show their age. All individually-owned one-bedroom units have full kitchens and most have cozy fireplaces and balconies, but furniture looks dated. There’s also no guarantee that guests will be placed in their requested rooms. Still, families love the ski-in convenience, plus the outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna, ski gear storage room, and free laundry facilities. Note that there isn't a restaurant or breakfast room here. For slightly higher rates, the nearby Stonebridge Inn (which is where Lichenhearth guests check in) has a fitness center and a great restaurant, but rooms there are dated, too.
Scene
Collection of privately owned condominiums and no reception services
The condos are placed between two low-rise buildings, with stone pillars studding the otherwise standard concrete structures and multiple balconied units. As one of the older properties in Snowmass Village, it does show its age, though it's clean and well-maintained. There’s no front desk or lobby on the property, so guests must go to the nearby Stonebridge Inn to check-in, which can be slightly confusing. Apart from a pool complex and combination laundry and ski storage room, there aren't any public areas at the hotel. The condos are primarily geared towards families looking for a practical and affordable option for a ski vacation.
Location
Ski-in hilltop location is within walking distance to lifts, gondolas, and base camp shops/restaurants
The condos, surrounded by other properties and pine trees, sit on a hill and offer beautiful views of the mountains. The slopeside location is ideal for skiers; it's a three-minute walk from the lifts and provides the ski-in convenience factor. Child-friendly attractions are easily accessible: Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center is a one-minute walk away, and the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Center is a nine-minute walk away. The shopping and restaurants in the basecamp area down the hill are 11 minutes away on foot. The free private shuttle service throughout the village is thoughtful for people who aren’t used to walking in high altitude. Aspen-Pitkin County Airport is 15 minutes away by car. The condos provide free airport transfers.
Rooms
Individually-owned condos all have full kitchens, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs
Unlike many other condo properties in the area, which have up to four bedrooms, there are only one-bedroom units at Lichenhearth Condominiums. While clean and fairly spacious, everything from their old-fashioned ceiling fans and cabinets, to their dowdy carpets and bedspreads, looks dated. The condos are individually owned, so the layout and furnishings are all different: some may have full dining tables, for instance, and others only have bar stools. Some master bedrooms have one king-size bed, while others have two queen-size beds. The nicer uits have iPod docks and one-and-a-half bathrooms. Most condos have pleasant balconies or outdoor decks with gas grills and beautiful slope views, and several also have cozy fireplaces (firewood is provided). Guests do note that their requested rooms can’t always be guaranteed, which is disappointing for those who really want a deck or fireplace. All condos have at least one flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. Cleaning supplies and ironing equipment are provided. Full kitchens are well-appointed with electric stoves, refrigerators with freezers, microwaves, tea-and coffee-making facilities, dishwashers, toasters, and plenty of cooking and eating utensils. Clean bathrooms have large mirrors, with sink areas separate from the toilet and bathing areas. All have shower/tub combos with fixed showerheads. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided. Limited housekeeping services are provided daily.
Features
Outdoor pool, hot tub, and sauna -- plus free laundry, parking, and Wi-Fi
Features here are focused on family ski vacations, and the only missing element is a daily breakfast. There’s no on-site restaurant, bar, or breakfast option, but the property is affiliated with the Artisan restaurant at the nearby Stonebridge Inn. A good-sized heated pool and a hot tub are enclosed within a gated area outside both condo buildings, providing a great place to relax with beautiful views of the mountains. There’s also a clean sauna on-site.The small laundry room has a washer and three dryers that are free to use, as is the computer adjacent to the room. Wi-Fi throughout the property is free. The covered outdoor parking lot is also free. The ski storage room is available to all guests, though it doesn’t have individual lockers or security. Free airport and village shuttle service are also provided.
