St. Moritz Lodge & Condominiums
334 W Hyman Ave

There is a wholesome feel to the St. Moritz Lodge & Condominiums, a value property with free breakfast. Its 25 traditional rooms range from shared dorm-style lodgings to two-bedroom condos with full kitchens. Far from the hippest place in this tiny ski town, the St. Moritz has an off-kilter charm that is equal parts European, practical, and old fashioned, though some furnishings are dated or worn. There is a pretty blue-tile pool and well-tended gardens. But travelers looking for less kitsch could try the Aspen Mountain Lodge, though there's less personality as well.

Mountain Chalet Aspen
333 E Durant Ave The St. Regis Aspen Resort

The Mountain Chalet Aspen is a mid-range hotel conveniently located downtown. This family-run, Swiss chalet-style property opened in 1954 and offers 59 individually decorated rooms, ranging from small Economy Rooms to spacious two-bedroom apartments with kitchens and two bathrooms. Decor can feel cozy or kitschy, but some areas are simply outdated. Amenities include a free hot breakfast, an outdoor heated pool, free parking, and an excellent fitness center with personal trainers, and a whirlpool, a sauna, and a steam room. Meeting space for up to 200 people is also available for rent. Rates are attractive but with only 59 rooms, it can sell out fast. Also downtown, the mid-range Annabelle Inn is a good alternative and offers a free breakfast buffet.

Limelight Hotel

The Limelight is a modern, 126-room resort in the heart of Aspen. The hotel offers tons of inclusive perks, including transportation to and from the Aspen airport and all area lifts, Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, gym, and early mountain access with professional guides. In the summer, guests can enjoy the heated outdoor pool and free bike loans. Rooms are contemporary and high-end, if a tad bland for the price, and have flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and Keurig coffeemakers. The Limelight Hotel's prime location, cozy lounge restaurant, and tons of seasonal extras make it a great four-pearl pick, but it's worth comparing rates with the nearby Sky Hotel.

Annabelle Inn

The Annabelle Inn's individually decorated rooms feel like they belong in a cabin rather than a hotel. And the cozy, casual layout follows suit -- rooms are all accessed by exterior hallways that face inward over a quaint courtyard. Amenities here are few, but the two outdoor hot tubs are a real highlight -- especially for slopes junkies who enjoy the ski videos played in the evenings. Perks such as the plentiful free breakfast buffet and the great Main Street location (a little more than six blocks from the ski lifts) make the inn a great value year-round. The nearby Mountain Chalet Aspen offers a free hot breakfast, free underground parking, and an excellent fitness center, but its rooms aren't as charming.

The St. Regis Aspen Resort
315 E Dean St

The most iconic hotel in Aspen, the luxurious St. Regis is also centrally located, situated within walking distance of Aspen Mountain’s main gondola and smack in the middle of the historic city itself. Home to one of the world’s top-rated spas and a range of exquisite amenities, the St. Regis also makes sure that its fine features extend to every room. Each is equipped with a separate soaking tub and Italian espresso machine, and some have mountain views. For those who can afford it, the St. Regis checks all the boxes expected of a high-end mountain town stay, but be forewarned that restaurants are pricey and Wi-Fi costs extra.

The Little Nell

This 92-room embodies mountain luxury, from its gorgeous, modern rooms to its exclusive ski concierge team. It's just steps from Aspen's main lifts, and offers first tracks benefits, free transportation to and from all four area mountains, and tons of seasonal outings. All rooms have fireplaces, Blu-ray players, and heated floors, as well as iPad and video game loans by request; rooms with mountain views cost extra. All that luxury comes at a steep price, and the Little Nell has some of the most expensive rooms Aspen. Added to the bill is also the mandatory per-night donation to a local environmental organization.

Hotel Jerome

A top-rated luxury hotel in Aspen, the 1889-opened Hotel Jerome is all about history and rustic elegance, managing to feel sophisticated and cozy at the same time. Located on Aspen's main street, there are ski racks outside for those fresh off the slopes, and three snazzy bars and restaurants inside to warm them up. The 93 rooms are gorgeous and high-end, featuring masculine decor, Nespresso machines, and separate tubs and showers. Spa services, an outdoor pool, gym, and kids' club round out the amenities, though note that there's a resort fee. Travelers may prefer The Little Nell, a luxe property right at the base of the slopes, and with fireplace-equipped rooms, however, rates are typically higher.

Aspen Square Condominium Hotel

The Aspen Square Condominium Hotel is a 101-unit property with a homey vibe and a prime downtown location just a two-minute walk from the nearest ski lift. The individually owned condos all come with full kitchens, balconies, and wood-burning fireplaces, but some units could use updates. Highlights include the pool and two Jacuzzis, which are surrounded by elegant fountains, sleek patio furniture, and numerous plants.

The Gant

A popular choice among families, The Gant sits near the base of Aspen Mountain and features 140 one- to four-bedroom condos with Aspen-inspired decor (leather and wood accents, rich colors, and scenic mountain artwork). The hotel is on a large piece of land, and has two heated outdoor pools with accompanying Jacuzzis, as well as five tennis courts, so it remains lively in both the winter and summer months. But the hotel is farther from the center of town than some other resorts (although it remains within walking distance), so those hoping to be in the middle of the action may consider the nearby Aspen Square Condominium Hotel.

Aspen Meadows Resort
845 Meadows Rd

Surrounded by trees, brush, and the Rocky Mountains, the 98-room Aspen Meadows Resort is best known as the setting for Aspen Institute seminars -- think tanks about leadership and public policy. Built in 1949, the streamlined, Bauhaus-inspired upscale resort lets nature have the spotlight with huge glass windows that showcase postcard-ready scenery. Aspen Meadows' spacious rooms are filled with tasteful, understated furniture and patios that offer a chance to reflect in the lush expanse. By comparison, The St. Regis Aspen Resort is homier and closer to downtown Aspen, but can also cost twice the price.
