Bottom Line

Travelers staying for a few days or a few months would enjoy the self-contained, private living experience offered by the upper-middle-range Residences at Biltmore, situated between historic downtown Asheville and Biltmore Village. Each of the 55 studios and one- and two-bedroom suites have fully-equipped kitchens with stainless steel appliances, as well as stacked stone electric fireplaces, and balconies. The modern fitness center, and heated outdoor pool area with hot tub and fire pit, offer a vacation-like reprieve. Wi-Fi and parking are free. Reasonably priced compared to other hotels in or near Biltmore Village, the Residences are ideal for families or group getaways. Guests should be prepared, however, to hear doors slamming and footfalls from neighbors.

Scene

Suburban condo complex with well-kept grounds

From the outside, the Residences look just like a high-end condominium complex surrounded by a stacked stone wall. Comprised of a few buildings, ranging from three to five levels each, the property is dotted with leafy trees and colorful flower patches. There is no lobby -- just a registration office. The common areas are limited to the outdoor pool area with a hot tub and fire pit. It's a large space, but is more reminiscent of what one may find at a condo complex than a hotel. Guests here are mostly groups and families on vacation.

Location

A half-mile from Biltmore Village, and two miles from downtown Asheville

Set just off quiet, tree-lined Biltmore Avenue, the property is convenient to I-40 and it's just about two miles from downtown Asheville (which is a five-minute drive). The location is ideal for tourists wanting to visit the Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village, which are both within a half-mile or 10-minute walk, and offer a myriad of shops and some of Asheville’s best restaurants. Asheville High School is a half-mile walk west, and the mountains are easily accessed by car along Route 25. Asheville Regional Airport is about a 20- to 25-minute drive away.

Rooms

Cozy Craftsman-style apartments with full kitchens and fireplaces

Much homier than those at many hotels, these apartment-style residences include Studios and One- and Two-Bedroom Units. Each is decorated with Craftsman-style furnishings accented with patchwork patterns, leather armchairs, Tiffany-style lamps, and simple beige carpets. Each also has a furnished balcony, stacked stone gas fireplace, and large flat-screen TV. The star of each unit is the full kitchen, equipped with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a coffeemaker, and all the necessary pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. All units have a washer and dryer. Most One- and Two-Bedroom Suites have large whirlpool bathtubs with separate showers, while Studios have large walk-in showers; all have soothing beige tile and glass shower doors. Wi-Fi and Cable TV are free, and there's also an on-site pantry which drinks and snacks to purchase for those who plan to do some in-room dining.

Features

Heated outdoor pool and fire pit with sunset views

With their fully equipped kitchens and elegant stacked stone fireplaces, the units are the best feature at The Residences.  There is also a small, modern fitness room with cardio and weight-training equipment, and a bathroom with a shower. The outdoor area --  with a heated pool, hot tub, and fire pit with sunset views -- further elevates the property. There's also free Wi-Fi and parking, plus concierge services for arranging adventure tours or restaurant reservations. In-room massages are available, and pets are allowed for an extra fee. There are no restaurants or bars on-site.
