Bottom Line

Renaissance Asheville
Hotel is a mid-range chain hotel conveniently located in downtown Asheville, near shops
and restaurants, that caters to business travelers and tourists alike. While the rooms are perfectly fine, the amenities are notably better: There are an indoor pool and hot tub, a modern 24-hour fitness center, a farm-to-table restaurant,
and a modern lobby bar. The hotel’s 277 rooms are contemporary, if chain-like and a bit small with tight bathrooms. Still, it's the best downtown option for the price; the Aloft Asheville Downtown is more stylish but typically pricier.

Scene

Chain hotel with modern lobby and writing-themed restaurant

The lobby at the Renaissance
Asheville Hotel is colorful and modern, with a clean-lined white front desk, cube-shaped lamps, and several eclectic seating areas, one of which has a lime green
chair near an electric fireplace flanked by a floor-to-ceiling bookcase. Another seating
area is decorated with a futuristic, geometric wall and tall floor lamps with drum
shades. The hotel's restaurant, the Writer’s Bistro, is similarly modern in style, with mirrors
covered with words about Asheville and writing. The lobby bar has a marble top with a rough
edge and tall, wooden bar stools. Outside, there’s a large stone patio with
rattan furniture where guests can relax under a glass roof. The hotel attracts a mix of business and leisure travelers.

Location

In downtown Asheville, within walking distance of shops and restaurants

The hotel is one of he few located right in downtown Asheville, and is next to
author Thomas Wolfe’s childhood home. The location is within walking distance
of plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants, as well as Pack Square Park, the
Orange Peel music venue, and the U.S. Cellular Center. The Biltmore Estate is within
a 10-minute drive, and Asheville Regional Airport is within a 25-minute drive
or an hour bus ride. The hotel offers free on-site parking.

Rooms

Cheery, chain-like rooms with small bathrooms

Rooms at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel are modern and in keeping with the mid-range chain's aesthetic, with
yellow-and-white-striped accent walls and patterned carpeting. Big, dark
headboards and framed artwork add some character; suites have separate sitting areas with couches and chairs. All rooms have coffee/tea
facilities, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms
are notably tight on space, and have shower/tub combinations and toiletries; some of the tiles could use fresh grout. Rooms have either city or mountain views.

Features

Indoor pool and whirlpool, farm-to-table restaurant, lobby bar, and meeting spaces

The hotel has an indoor pool and whirlpool in a high-ceilinged room
with big windows, lounge chairs, potted plants, and tables. The hotel has a
farm-to-table restaurant that serves a well-reviewed breakfast, which can be included in some
room rates. The lobby bar serves food and drinks. There are coin-operated
laundry machines, as well as a gift shop. Fourteen conference rooms are available for
private events. The hotel is pet-friendly, for a fee, a portion of which is donated
to the local humane society. There's also a business center, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
