Bottom Line

The three-pearl Homewood Suites by Hilton Asheville-Tunnel Road, just a five-minutes drive from downtown Asheville, was renovated in 2017 and offers pleasant, residence-style accommodations. Its 94 suites are spacious with contemporary decor, and feature full kitchens and sleeper sofas, plus flat-screen TVs, but premium Wi-Fi requires a room upgrade or surcharge. The property's amenities are attractive, with a gym, indoor pool/whirlpool, business center, and tons of freebies like breakfast, weekday receptions, and shuttle service downtown, but there's no full-service restaurant on-site. Travelers looking for a similar property that's closer to downtown can check out Four Points by Sheraton Asheville Downtown.

Scene

A fresh and modern hotel, with a bright and inviting lobby and dining area

This handsome hotel completed a renovation in the first half of 2017 that gave it a modern and inviting lobby, with a gas fireplace framed by natural stone, stylish furniture upholstered in on-trend jewel tones, and a modern halo chandelier. There's a cozy courtyard with gas grills that's a popular spot for guests to gather in warm weather during the weekday manager’s receptions. The dining area is just off the lobby, with similar decor but an added dose of energy from chic, hot-pink seating. The atmosphere here is causal and relaxed. Expect to see both business travelers and tourists, including families seeking the convenience of apartment-style accommodations.

Location

On busy Tunnel Road, a five-minute drive from downtown Asheville

The hotel is located on busy Tunnel Road, surrounded by several chain restaurants and other hotels. It’s just off Interstate 240 and a five-minute drive to the heart of downtown Asheville. Biltmore Village is a 10-minute drive, and the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitors Center is seven minutes by car. Asheville Regional Airport is a 22-minute drive, and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina is 75 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Spacious and fresh, with equipped kitchenettes and sleeper sofas

The suites are fresh from the hotel's renovation, with contemporary decor and understated, colorful accents that prevent spaces from feeling bland. Guest rooms are primarily neutral, done in shades of brown, beige, and gray, highlighted with teal and ocean-blue hues in the drapes, artwork, and some fabrics. Soft lighting and wood furniture with a dark cherry finish complete the look. Units are spacious and come in King Studio and One-Bedroom King or Double-Queen options. All feature kitchenettes equipped with stainless steel appliances that include full fridges, microwaves, two-burner stoves, and dishwashers. Marble counters, cookware, coffeemakers, and small dining tables are standard as well. There are also sleeper sofas, desks, 32-inch flat-screen TVs with DVD players, and free weekday newspapers, but no safes. Guests staying in entry-level units can upgrade to high-speed Wi-Fi for a fee. Premium suites feature the best mountain views and offer an upgraded amenities package, with Keurig coffeemakers, high-speed Wi-Fi, and free snacks and soft drinks. Bathrooms are roomy thanks to en-suite vanities. Studios have walk-in showers and One-Bedrooms have shower/tub combos, and all are stocked with a generous supply of Neutrogena products. Despite being close to the interstate highway, the suites are quiet.

Features

Pool and gym, and lots of freebies, but fee for high-speed Wi-Fi

This residence-style property has an excellent amenities package that includes lots of freebies, such as a full hot breakfast buffet and a weekday manager’s reception with beer, wine, and light dinners. Free coffee is also available all day. For wellness, there's a decent-size indoor pool and whirlpool, but the space that surrounds it is rather small and dark. A fitness center has several pieces of Precor cardio equipment, plus free weights. There's also a business center that has two computers and a printer, and meeting space for up to 30 people is available. Other amenities include a guest laundry room, valet dry cleaning and laundry (fee), and a 24-hour convenience store in the lobby that sells snacks, sundries, frozen entrees, beer, and wine. For guests who want to prepare their own meals, the hotel offers a grocery shopping and delivery service (for a fee). Standard Wi-Fi is free, and premium-speed Wi-Fi is available for a modest daily charge. Parking is free, as is a shuttle that runs within a five-mile radius that includes downtown Asheville and Biltmore Village.
