Bottom Line

The 125-room Comfort Suites Outlet Center is a budget property situated right next to the Asheville Outlet Mall. It's a 15-minute drive from downtown and about 20 minutes from the Biltmore Estate, but there are several restaurants within walking distance. Rooms are basic, but clean, and come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Some have whirlpool tubs. A breakfast buffet with hot and cold items is free, as is parking and Wi-Fi. The outdoor pool is popular with the kids, and there's also a fitness center and coin-operated laundry room. Meeting space accommodates social and business gatherings. Travelers looking for a slightly more upmarket option in the area could check out the nearby Hampton Inn Asheville, but rates are higher.

Scene

Typical chain hotel that's most popular with families and couples on a budget

Previously called the Comfort Suites Biltmore Square Mall, the Comfort Suites Outlet Center is a typical budget hotel. The front desk is immediately inside the sliding glass doors, and there's a mini-convenience store next to it that sells snacks and basic medicines. While there's a desk with computers and some armchairs, it's hardly the kind of place anyone would hang out. This area can get crowded at times as guests are waiting to check in and out. In fact, the hotel is mostly used as a cheap home base for commuters or those looking to explore the region. This hotel is popular with families and couples, as well as guests attending events in the meeting area.

Location

Located off I-26 next to outlet mall, 15-minute drive from downtown

Situated next to the Asheville Outlet Mall just off Interstate 26, this hotel shares a parking lot with the mall. A seafood restaurant is right next door, and there are several other eateries within walking distance, including fast food and fast casual options. The North Carolina Arboretum is a six-minute drive from the hotel. Downtown Asheville is about 15 minutes away by car, and the Biltmore Estate is about a 20-minute drive. The Blue Ridge Parkway is close by, and the Visitor Center is 14 minutes away by car. Plan on a 12-minute drive to reach Asheville Regional Airport.

Rooms

Clean rooms with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers -- some with whirlpool tubs

Although all rooms are called suites, they're actually just standard hotel rooms with single king-size beds or two double beds, plus a sofa bed. Decor is a typical chain look, with medium-toned, clean-lined wood furniture, patterned blue carpeting, red bed runners atop white linens, and blue blackout drapes. Modern art hangs on the wall. It's all pleasant, if unmemorable. Amenities include flat-screen TVs with premium channels, mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Some rooms have whirlpool tubs in the living area. Bathrooms are basic, but clean, with shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries. Some rooms on the top floor have distant mountain views.

Features

Free breakfast, heated outdoor pool, fitness center, laundry room, meeting rooms, and free parking

This basic chain hotel offers most everything needed for a comfortable short stay. A free breakfast buffet is served daily in an airy breakfast room. Selections include eggs, make-your-own waffles, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereals, bagels, pastries, yogurt, and fruits. The outdoor pool isn't particularly attractive, but it's refreshing on a hot day. Dining tables are shaded by umbrellas, and there are a few lounge chairs for relaxing poolside. A small fitness center has modern cardio and weight-training equipment. Towels are provided, and there's a water fountain. Two computers and a printer are set up in the lobby for guests to use, and a laundry room has a coin-operated washer and dryer. Flexible meeting rooms total 2,500 square feet, and planners are available to assist with arranging details of business or social events. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Pets weighing 50 pounds and less are welcome for a fee. On-site parking is free.
