Best Western Asheville Tunnel Road

Like many of the motels and hotels lining this stretch of Tunnel Road, the two-story Best Western Asheville Tunnel Road greets guests with an expansive parking lot surrounding its buildings. This is a motel-style building and all rooms are accessed from exterior corridors, though guests with mobility issues should know that there is no elevator to the second floor. The simple lobby is bright and has a stacked stone front desk, and there are two recliners and a love seat for any guests who want to linger here, though the vibe is purely functional. An aquarium brightens up a wall heading into the breakfast area, which has a homey, cafeteria vibe and can get crowded in the mornings. Guests here are predominantly families and couples.

The hotel is located on busy Tunnel Road along with many other chain hotels. It's less than a mile from the Asheville Mall (a two-minute drive) and within walking distance of numerous restaurants. The location is solid for tourists with a car who are looking for a well-priced hotel with quick access to popular sights. Downtown Asheville takes five minutes to reach by car. The Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village are a 15-minute drive from the hotel while the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, the historic Grove Park Inn, UNC Asheville, and Warren Wilson College all take around 10 minutes to reach by car. Asheville Regional Airport is about 30 minutes away. 

Rooms are basic, with earth-tone color schemes, dark wood furniture, and dark patterned carpeting. Accent walls in a variety of contemporary shades, from mustard to deep red, look smart, though the wall art is fairly generic. Some of the furniture in certain guest rooms isn't as contemporary as in others, like the ADA Queen Room we visited. Rooms offer a number of amenities, including flat-screen TVs with HBO, free local phone calls, coffeemakers, microwaves, mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and tables with arm chairs. Bathrooms are small but clean, and they have bathtub/shower combos and toiletries. Sinks with large granite counters are outside the toilet and tub area. Rooms with jetted tubs and recliners are available, and seven Suites have even more space and a love seat. 

For a budget hotel there are several nice perks here, including the free breakfast that features hot and cold items like cereal, eggs, fruit, juices, coffee, and breads. The rectangular, heated outdoor pool by the parking lot is suitable for swimming laps and has a basketball net. For those who prefer to relax poolside, there are plastic lounge chairs and a single umbrella. A small computer station is available for guest access around the clock and has a printer. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and free coffee and tea are available in the lobby throughout the day.
