Bottom Line

The three-pearl White Beach Apartments – Noord/Eagle Beach have a rather secluded location 15 minutes by car from downtown Oranjestad. The hotel's name implies close proximity to the sea, but beaches aren’t within walking distance; they’re at least a five- to 10-minute drive away. The 10 no-frills apartments equipped with free Wi-Fi, kitchens, and furnished patios or balconies, allow guests to feel self-sufficient while enjoying some hotel-like conveniences like weekly housekeeping. With little more than a circular pool and grill on the grounds, the property is hardly fancy. Still, it's popular with travelers who are willing to forego luxury resort amenities for more privacy, fewer crowds, and affordable rates. Note that services charges apply for stays less than six nights. For a livelier atmosphere that’s closer to the beach, MCV Eagle Beach is a solid alternative.

Scene

Small, private apartment complex with laid-back atmosphere

Renovated in 2012, this small complex doesn't offer much beyond its apartments, but it’s a quaint and well-maintained option for vacationing travelers (it’s particularly suitable as a couple’s retreat). A pebble-lined pathway surrounded by cacti and trees gives its entrance a laid-back feel that suits Aruba’s beachy environs. There are no lobby or public spaces to speak of, but the individual units surround a small garden and pool area which is used by guests for lounging and cookouts -- but is almost never crowded. Guests seem to enjoy the simplicity of the property, as it makes for a quiet, private, and homey atmosphere between drives to the beach.

Location

Not much within walking distance, but short drives to beaches, city center, and attractions

The complex sits adjacent to a rather traffic-heavy street, but still feels secluded, as there isn’t much to do or see in the immediate vicinity. Walking to beaches or attractions takes upwards of a half-hour, so guests note that having a car is a must. Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are both under a 10-minute drive away. Paseo Herencia Mall and the Aruba Butterfly Farms are an eight-minute drive away. The city center of Oranjestad and Boca Catalina Beach are 15 minutes away by car. Queen Beatrix International Airport is a 17-minute drive away.

Rooms

Limited electricity and sparsely decorated; free Wi-Fi, outdoor spaces, and kitchens included

Furnishings are rather basic in all 10 apartments. The sofas, beds, and cabinets are perfectly serviceable, but there are few decorative frills, and walls are mostly bare. Little attention has been paid to making the spaces stand out aesthetically, so guests shouldn’t expect much character. However, all units have pleasant private terraces with colorful seating and garden or pool views. Some even have hammocks.

Apartments are available with one or two bedrooms, or in budget two-bedroom varieties, which don’t have windows in the bedrooms. Larger bungalows and a holiday home, both of which accommodate more people, are also available. One-bedroom apartments, bungalows, and holiday homes have sofa beds, but per-night fees apply for additional rollaway beds in any apartment.

All apartments have small flat-screen TVs in the living rooms and bedrooms, desks, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Bedrooms feature air-conditioning, but living rooms only have standing fans. Apartments include kitchens with empty mini-fridges, microwaves, toasters, stoves, tea- and coffee-making facilities, dishware and cutlery. Guests should also note that while limited electricity is included with rates, there are fees for additional use. Housekeeping services are provided once a week and ironing equipment is provided.

Bathrooms are simple, with small mirrors and partial dividers between the shower and sink areas. All bathrooms have walk-in showers with handheld showerheads. Hairdryers are provided, but guests must bring their own toiletries.

Features

Pleasant pool and barbecue area

Traditional hotel amenities won’t be found here, as there are no restaurant, bar, breakfast room, reception desk, gym, or spa. The outdoor pool area, with a wooden deck and sun loungers, is clean and relaxing, and partially covered so it can be enjoyed during rain or shine. A barbecue grill by the pool is free to use, and popular with guests for cookouts. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Guests should note that there is a service charge for stays of less than six nights.
