Bottom Line

Aruba Tropic Apartments is a two-and-half pearl hotel
located two miles from downtown Oranjestad, the capital city. The hotel’s seven charming apartment-style
rooms offer kitchens with cookware and four-burner stovetops -- which is good, as there isn't a restaurant or breakfast served here. The atmosphere is
intimate, and the hotel’s pool and courtyard are quite pleasant, set with thatch umbrellas and lounge chairs. There are some
restaurants and shops within a quarter-mile, but guests need their own
transportation to reach the island’s main entertainment centers and beaches. As
an alternative, it’s also worth considering Beach House Aruba which offers
easier access to beaches and nightlife.

Scene

Apartment-style hotel with a laid-back vibe

With only
seven apartments arranged around a central courtyard, the atmosphere at Aruba
Tropic Apartments is quiet and secluded. Palapas, and yellow buildings with terra-cotta
roofs, create the look of a little tropical retreat. Palm trees and potted plants provide a bit of color to the outdoor areas. Guests are a mix of singles, couples, and families,
with the hotel mainly appealing to anyone who prefers a peaceful base away from the
island’s buzzing beachfront areas. The hotel owners live on the same property,
so they’re often available to provide recommendations. There are a
few shops and restaurants in the neighborhood, but overall this hotel is likely
to feel quite isolated for guests without their own transportation. The pool
area is lovely, but with virtually zero other on-site amenities, this is the
kind of low-key property that you only return to in the evening when you’re
ready to relax and sleep.

Location

Residential location between Aruba Noord and downtown Oranjestad

Aruba
Tropic Apartments are set on a quiet back street, a 10-minute drive from
downtown Oranjestad. There are a
few supermarkets and restaurants accessible in less than five minutes on foot,
but the island’s main dining and entertainment hubs are more far-flung. Eagle Beach and Drulf Beach are a little less than four miles away. The bars,
casinos, and shops of the island’s High-Rise Hotel district are three miles
away. It’s a 20-minute drive to the California Lighthouse, and 10 minutes by
car to the Royal Plaza Mall. Queen Beatrix International Airport is about four
miles away.

Rooms

Cozy apartment-style rooms include kitchens and iPod docks

Seven guest rooms at Aruba Tropic Apartments are homey and updated,
with kitchens. Decor is slightly tropical, but not over the top -- burnt orange throw pillows pop against soft, neutral bed linens. Walls
are decorated with inspirational quote art. Closets hold hairdryers,
ironing boards, and personal safes. All guests receive thoughtful welcome
baskets stocked with a can of soda, a bag of chips, and some tourist brochures
about the islands. Many rooms feature French doors, which open to furnished patios
facing the pool.Kitchens are a bit old-fashioned but functional. These offer mini-fridges, stovetops, microwaves, coffeemakers, and cookware. All rooms
include iPod docks and flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are plain and tidy, featuring
showers and stand-alone round sinks with no counter space. Dispensers are
stocked with Aruba Aloe brand shampoo/conditioner, bath gel, and hand soap. Suites offer larger kitchens with ovens and full-size
fridges. Suites also include larger dining tables and separate sitting areas. Past guests have complained that housekeeping can be as infrequent as once per week.

Features

Small outdoor pool set within an attractive courtyard

There are limited features at the Aruba Tropic Apartments. The hotel’s
kidney-shaped pool is located in the middle of an appealing brick-paved
courtyard. The pool is surrounded by wooden benches and picnic tables, as well
as lounge chairs, some of which are shaded by palapa umbrellas. Free Wi-Fi is
available throughout, and free self-parking is offered in front of the
property. Barbecue facilities are on offer. There's a handy washer and dryer for guest use. Airport
pick-up and grocery supply services are offered for additional fees.
