Three ice skating rinks in San Francisco

Outdoor ice skating doesn’t last long in San Francisco, but three city rinks offer traditional winter fun during the holiday season. Head to the outdoor rinks before they melt--or hit the indoor Yerba Buena skating center year-round.
Holiday Ice Rink – Embarcadero: This rink, close to the Ferry Building at the end of Market Street has been around, seasonally, for more than 20 years. It's the larger of the two outdoor rinks in San Francisco, and a great holiday season attraction. Skate on over until January 4, when the Zamboni hibernates. Justin Herman Plaza, adjacent to Four Embarcadero Center. Stay at the nearby Embarcadero Hyatt.
Union Square Ice Rink: In the middle of the city’s central shopping district, take a break from the stores and lace up some skates. It’s a picturesque spot, next to the large, glittery Christmas tree, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of holiday shoppers weaving through Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. The rink stays frozen until January 18. Union Square, Powell and Geary. Stay at the Campton Place Taj Hotel.
Yerba Buena Ice Skating Center: If you missed the outdoor experience or prefer a larger, indoor rink, head south of Market to the Yerba Buena Ice Skating Center. You may even see Olympian Brian Boitano there -– it’s his home rink now. Come for public skating, or take a lesson. 750 Folsom St. Stay at the nearby W Hotel.
