Take Me Out to the Ball Game: Where to Stay to Watch Your MLB Team

Baseball season is now in full swing (sorry, we couldn't help ourselves) and you have six months of heartbreak and/or joy -- depending on your team -- ahead. Taking in a game from the comfort of your living room can be nice, especially if it means saving face after an embarrassing loss (hey, Rangers!). But there's nothing quite like taking in your team from the stands, with a hot dog and beer in hand. And there's nothing like showing your team spirit than being there to root them on in the flesh. So whether you cheer for the Yankees (or the Mets), the Red Sox, the White Sox (or the Cubs), the Braves, the Cardinals, the Dodgers, the Marlins, the Phillies, the Giants, or the Astros, we have the perfect hotel where the die-hard fans can stay.

  • For: Yankees Fans, New York City

  • Trump International Hotel and Tower, New York City

Trump International Hotel and Tower, New York City

He may have sold his penthouse apartment a few months ago, but Derek Jeter fans will still love being in a place the famed Yankee once called home: The Trump International Hotel and Tower. A luxury skyscraper with hotel rooms and residences, the Trump is one of the top spots for pre and post-game pampering, with an indoor pool, a tasty restaurant, and one of the best spas in the city. Plus, with a fabulous location on Central Park West, the hotel is less than a block from the B and D lines which will drop you off right by Yankee Stadium.

For Mets Fans: If you're a Mets fan and can't stand to be in the same hotel as Yankees fans (and to be honest, the stadiums aren't that close), you may consider the Grand Hyatt. Rumored to have hosted numerous celebrity athletes (particularly during the U.S. Open), the Grand Hyatt is conveniently located next to Grand Central, where Mets fans can catch the 7 train to Citi Field in Queens. It's also a prime location for visiting numerous must-see Big Apples sights.

  • For: Red Sox Fans, Boston

  • SideBar & Grille at the Sheraton Boston Hotel

SideBar & Grille at the Sheraton Boston Hotel

It may not be the nicest hotel in Beantown, but this upper-mid-range property is at the top of the list for Red Sox fans. After all, it's less than a 20-minute walk from Fenway Park. Need we say more? Well, we can. The Sheraton also features a late-night sports bar, an on-site Starbucks (absolutely vital for getting caffeinated before a double-header), and a spacious, well-equipped gym if watching top-tier athletes all day inspires you to get work on your fitness.

  • For: White Sox Fans, Chicago

  • The Family Suite at Essex Inn, Chicago

The Family Suite at Essex Inn, Chicago

There are few hotels within walking distance of the U.S. Cellular Field and trust us when we say that you don't want to stay at the ones that are. There are many hotels just north of the stadium, however, that are close to multiple major attractions and are just a quick cab or L ride away from the stadium. The Essex Inn, which offers a solid value, is one of them. Twenty minutes to the stadium via public transportation or seven minutes by car, the "inn" features generic decor and relatively small rooms. But it overlooks the lovely Grant Park and features an impressive indoor pool.

For Cubs Fans: Wrigley Field is far from U.S. Cellular Field (we're not surprised), so Cubs fans may consider the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace. This hotel, which feels more like a boutique than a chain (it's housed in a charming brick building), is one of the few hotels in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, home to Wrigley Field and Chicago's gay nightlife scene.

  • For: Braves Fans, Atlanta

  • Terrace Bistro at The Ellis Hotel, Atlanta

Terrace Bistro at The Ellis Hotel, Atlanta

When visiting Atlanta, you really want to stay on Peachtree Street, the main drag of the downtown area, where the Ellis Hotel sits. The hotel is less than a 10-minute drive from Turner Field (or about 20 minutes via public transportation) and is within walking distance of nearly every major attraction in the city, as well as top-notch restaurants and bars for (hopefully) celebrating after the game. If you'd rather just relax at the hotel post-game, the Ellis features a tasty farm-to-table restaurant and nightly $1 wine tastings, complete with hors d'ouerves.

  • For: Cardinals Fans, St. Louis

  • View from Guest Room at Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark

View from Guest Room at Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark

The Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark is aptly named; it overlooks the Busch Memorial Stadium from less than two blocks away. Understandably, the hotel is always packed with Cardinals fans, and thus has plenty of amenities to keep baseball fanatics happy: an indoor pool and fitness center, numerous eateries and snack shops including a pizzeria, Starbucks, and froyo joint, and a rooftop bar with 360-degree views of the city, including the stadium and the Arch.

  • For: Dodgers Fans, Los Angeles

  • The Pool at The Standard Downtown LA

The Pool at The Standard Downtown LA

Downtown L.A. is the closest neighborhood to Dodgers Stadium that offers numerous hotel options. For hip Dodgers fans (what other kind are there, right?), The Standard is a solid choice, with a cool vibe and an often surprisingly reasonable pricetag. A 10-minute drive from the stadium without traffic (ha, when does that happen?), the hotel has a cool rooftop pool and equally cool basement fitness center. Nightly DJs are great for partying, but not so great for catching some shuteye before the game.

  • For: Marlins Fans, Miami

  • Lobby at the Viceroy Miami

    Lobby at the Viceroy Miami

Most people will take just about any excuse to head to Miami, and what's more valid than cheering on your team? Like in L.A., the downtown area of Miami is the place to be for easy access to the baseball stadium; it's about a five to 10 minute drive to the Marlins' Ballpark from anywhere in downtown. Though the neighborhood isn't as hip as South Beach, the Viceroy does a pretty good job of emulating it with a sexy rooftop pool, a gorgeous spa, and a tasty Mediterranean restaurant.

  • For: Phillies Fans, Philadelphia

  • Vapor Pavilion at Hotel Monaco Philadelphia

Vapor Pavilion at Hotel Monaco Philadelphia

Part of the Kimpton brand, Hotel Monaco is one of the hippest spots in Philly, and is just about a 10-minute drive from the Phillies Baseball Field. The hotel's unique design featuring bright decor and stylishly mismatched furniture sets it apart, and sports fans needing some stress relief can set up in-room spa services. Families bringing the tots along for the game will appreciate the Kimpton Kids program, which offers amenities such as loaner cribs, strollers, safey kits, and even goldfish! Plus, the hotel sits right across from the Independence National Historic Park.

  • For Giants Fans, San Francisco

  • King Room at the Courtyard San Francisco Downtown

King Room at the Courtyard San Francisco Downtown

The Courtyard San Francisco Downtown is less than a 15-minute walk from the Giants stadium, and has plenty of on-site dining options, including a Starbucks for those needing a jolt of energy before a game. The hotel is also a short walk from many of the city's best museums, and it features a small indoor pool and fitness center.

  • For: Astros Fans, Houston

  • Lobby at the Magnolia Hotel Houston

Lobby at the Magnolia Hotel Houston

Situated in the center of downtown, Minute Maid Park is within walking distance of plenty of hotels but we really love the Magnolia Hotel. An 8-minute walk from the stadium, this beautiful property features the only rooftop pool in Houston, an upscale vibe, and myriad freebies including Wi-Fi, bedtime milk and cookies, breakfast buffet, and evening wine reception.
