New on Oyster: California Wine Country
We just got back from beautiful Napa and Sonoma in California Wine Country, where hundreds of wineries dot the rolling hills and temperatures rarely dip below the 60s. The most popular visitor activities are drinking and eating -- and for good reason. Thomas Keller's French Laundry in Yountville is a destination unto itself and Healdsburg is home to Cyrus restaurant, with two Michelin stars. Napa Valley offers a number of luxury hotels, such as Auberge Du Soleil, which has a gorgeous pool, stunning views, and a Michelin-starred restaurant.
If luxury isn't in your budget, EuroSpa & Inn boasts a small pool with mountain views, free breakfast, and affordable prices to boot.
Sonoma County, Napa's more laid-back neighbor, has family-owned wineries and fewer crowds in its quaint towns. There are plenty of traditional B&Bs and inns, such as Bungalows 313. This small B&B in the heart of downtown Sonoma is made up of six homey and attractive bungalows.
The upscale Hotel Les Mars feels like a European mansion, and exudes elegance on every level, from the rooms' high ceilings with exposed wooden beams, to the dark cherry wood furniture. With 16 rooms, it's small enough that guests receive special attention without being overwhelmed by staff.
For something different, we liked the boutique H2 Hotel's minimalist décor, use of sustainable materials, and high-tech amenities.
