Jamaica Inn: A quiet, luxurious Carribean escape
The beautiful Jamaica Inn has pleased guests like Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe with its charm, quiet luxury and breathtaking views.
Travel and Leisure's 15th-annual reader survey of the top 100 hotels was published in the August 2010 edition of the magazine, and we here at Oyster were very pleased to see that T+L readers like the Jamaica Inn -- which holds the title of #37 on their list -- as much as we do! When we visited, we indulged in the hotel's quiet luxury -- the large, elegant rooms that all faced the sea (every single one!), the quiet beach (sans crowds), and the romantic four-poster bed frames. But we're not the only ones the resort has won over -- it was a favorite of Hollywood stars Marilyn Monroe and Katharine Hepburn, as well as dignitaries like Winston Churchill.

The resort is quiet (i.e. not a hot spring break destination) and attracts a crowd of middle-aged couples, honeymooners and families with bored teens in tow.
The hotel features soft, colonial décor
The Jamaica Inn acts like a second home for many of the guests, who are close friends with the hotel staff. The one-bedroom cottage offers breathtaking views of the ocean, as well as a private pool and marble bathroom.
The resort is isolated, and the nearest tourist attraction is a 15-minute drive away.
Unlike at some other all-inclusive resorts, the beach at Jamaica Inn is quiet and relaxed -- not overrun with tourists.
The open-wall guest rooms blur the line between inside and outside.
Cottages at the Jamaica Inn have private, outdoor pools.
In addition to a private pool, the one-bedroom cottage has a gorgeous bathroom and this magnificent view of the ocean.
