If you're looking to get away for Labor Day, don't fret -- some of our favorite hotels are on sale now for the holiday weekend. We've already told you about our great finds in Miami and Los Angeles, but if you're looking to cable-car your way down Lombard Street or visit iconic attractions like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Haight-Ashbury, you're covered now, too -- check out our favorite San Francisco hotels that are on sale now for Labor Day and book today!
Couples looking for a hip scene and sexy ambiance will find it at this trendy hotel. The cavernous Philippe-Starck-designed lobby is selectively lit to highlight the funky furniture. Crowds flock to the dimly-lit Redwood Room bar, paneled in warm redwood and dotted with velvety red sofas and chairs. Next door, Asia de Cuba restaurant serves its acclaimed Asian-Latin fusion fare. Rooms are on the small side, but the minimalist design and white and lavender décor make them feel larger than they are.
Clean, affordable, and quiet, Hotel Nikko seems more like a boutique hotel than the mid-size chain it is. The standard rooms, called Compact Rooms, are aptly named -- they are small indeed. But the Nikko succeeds at melding quirky (note the campy cabaret, the Rrazz Room), exotic amenities, and Japanese-inspired service. For the corporate set, there's a well-equipped fitness center, an excellent lap pool, and ample business services.
The Argonaut welcomes pets 200 pounds and under (yes, we mean 200, not 20), for free. Pets are treated to free perks like pet beds (available in various sizes), food and water bowls, and treats, and the hotel is located next to the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, which has great trails for dog walks.
The Adagio in Union Square excels in all the places where it matters for a solid value lodging. Its spacious rooms come with the right up-to-date luxuries -- pillow-top mattresses, iPod docks, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, full minibars, and good-size bathrooms with upscale toiletries -- and the small, competent staff provides better-than-expected service. Add in the tiny, on-site fitness and business centers, and a tapas-style restaurant, and there's plenty of bang for the buck here.
For an affordable -- yet still comfortable -- family option near the high-end shopping in Union Square, you can't do better than the Handlery. This classic San Francisco boutique hotel has one of the few, and one of the best, outdoor pools in the neighborhood. Plus, for about the price of a small standard room elsewhere, families visiting the Handlery can upgrade to a large, 450-square-foot Club-level guest room with a balcony or patio.
