Celebrate spring at San Francisco's Ferry Plaza Farmers Market
As if you needed any more reasons to visit one of the best farmers markets in the country, March is full of delicious events at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market in San Francisco.
The bustling market at the historic Ferry Building, just steps from the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, welcomes spring's mother load of fava beans, peas, and asparagus with a series of cooking demos by local chefs.
You can come watch, taste and learn at these free cooking events at the outdoor teaching kitchen under the north arcade:
11 a.m. March 6: Cooking demo with Joe Hargrove of Tacolicious in San Francisco.
12:30 p.m. March 9: Cooking demo and book-signing with Daisy Martinez, star of PBS' Daisy Cooks! and the Food Network's Viva Daisy! She's also the author of the new cookbook, Daisy: Morning, Noon and Night.
11 a.m. March 13: Cooking demo and book-signing with Mike Kalanty, baking instructor at the California Culinary Academy and author of How to Bake Bread.
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 20: Asparagus Celebration. Freshly made, open-faced grilled asparagus sandwiches with fresh goat cheese on Acme bread will be offered for only a $1 donation to CUESA, the Center for Urban Education and Sustainable Agriculture, which runs the farmers market. Learn how asparagus is grown and picked, and take home recipes from cooking demos past.
11 a.m. March 27: Cooking demo and book-signing with Lorna Sass, author of Whole Grains Every Day Every Way. Steve Sando of Rancho Gordo heirloom bean company will make a special appearance.
11:45 a.m. March 27: Cooking demo by Chef Dominique Crenn of Luce Restaurant in San Francisco and a former contestant on The Next Iron Chef.
