Breaking News: U.S. Department of State Warns Citizens to Avoid Tourist Areas in Istanbul After Explosion
On Tuesday morning, an explosion in a major tourist area of Istanbul killed at least 10 and wounded at least 15; media reports claim casualty numbers will likely rise as rescue workers aid victims, most of whom were tourists.
Likely a suicide bombing planned by ISIS, the explosion took place in a historic area frequented by tourists as it includes the Hagia Sophia museum, Blue Mosque, and several other sights.
The U.S. Department of State cautions citizens in Istanbul to avoid the area and "maintain a high level of vigilance."
