An inside peek at five popular celebrity hideaways
-
Gramercy Park Hotel, New York City
- Average Price: $476/avg. per night
- Pearls: 5
- Location: Gramercy and Murray Hill, New York City
The Gramercy Park Hotel is a choice hangout for the hip, beautiful, and famous, and its velvet-heavy Rose Bar is currently the epicenter of the New York bar scene. Our reporter glimpsed Sting during his stay. Within a single week, Janet Jackson was spotted admiring the artwork in the Rose Bar; Kid Rock was seen outside smoking a cigarette; and Chace Crawford was there having a business meeting. One would expect no less from Ian Schrager, the architect of culture who brought the world Studio 54 in the '70s and practically invented the hipster boutique hotel in the '80s and '90s. But the hotel, built in 1925, even attracted celebrities before Schrager reopened it in 2006: Humphrey Bogart got married here, and the bar was a favorite haunt of Babe Ruth. Rockhouse Hotel, Jamaica
- Average Price: $227/avg. per night
- Pearls: 4
- Location: Negril, Jamaica
The lush, laid-back Rockhouse creates a holistic haven -- gourmet dining, morning yoga, cliffside loungers, a premium spa, no kids under 12, and beautiful eco-appropriate design. Stars like Keri Russell, Jude Law, designer Nanette Lepore, and retired boxer Lennox Lewis come to this hotel seeking a serene hideout during the cold months. Mad Men star John Slattery makes annual trips to this hotel in order to snorkel in Pristine Cove. See more photos of the Rockhouse Hotel -
The Setai, Miami
- Average Price: $748/avg. per night
- Pearls: 5
- Location: South Beach, Miami
Striking but sober mood-lit design; impeccable service; huge, immaculate rooms; three pools, each a different temperature; and a prime beachside location make the Setai one of the best hotels in Miami. Celebrity sightings at the Setai, where the enormous rooms can easily accommodate a small posse, are too numerous to mention. Everyone from Jay-Z to Cat Power to Chris Brown has laid down tracks at the Lenny Kravitz-designed on-site recording studio, and the hotel regularly plays host to major fashion and entertainment events. The Setai is also reported to be a favorite of Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Gisele, U2, and Madonna, among others. Hilary Duff and Jennifer Hudson have performed at the hotel on New Year's Eve, and Beyonce and Britney Spears have frequented the hotel as well. See more photos of The Setai -
Chateau Marmont, Los Angeles
- Average Price: $429/avg. per night
- Pearls: 3.5
- Location: Hollywood/West Hollywood, Los Angeles
As Hollywood's most notorious celebrity hideaway, the Chateau Marmont is the best spot in L.A. for A-list sightings, especially in its two fantastic restaurants. An Oyster reporter spotted both Stevie Wonder and Radiohead's Thom Yorke at the restaurant's coveted patio tables. Twilight stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson spent the night together at the hotel, while unlikely friends Tila Tequila and Meghan McCain were spotted having lunch. Kate Bosworth and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard were seen kissing at Chateau, and a bar brawl between Lindsay Lohan and Avril Lavigne was rumored to have taken place here. And if that's not enough: Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer, and Billy Crudup have been spotted together in the courtyard, Eva Longoria and Christina Applegate were seen on the patio, Sienna Miller and Josh Hartnett have cozied up in the restaurant's living room, and actresses Lindsay Lohan, Charlize Theron, and Mary-Kate Olsen all graced Chateau's halls on the same night. The Kahala Hotel and Resort, Oahu
- Average Price: $336/avg. per night
- Pearls: 5
- Location: Oahu, Hawaii
A celebrity retreat since 1964, the newly renovated Kahala is quite possibly the best hotel in Oahu. The Kahala boasts a long hall of fame (well, it's a wall really), and has played host to everyone from Bill Clinton to Michael Jackson to Snoop Dogg. Liz Taylor and Richard Burton hid out from the paparazzi in a cabana here after getting married (for the first time) in 1964. Tiger Woods checked in while playing in a nearby golf tourney in 2009, and People magazine reports that heart-throb actor Shia LaBeouf has graced the hotel's sand.
