7 Cozy Mountain Lodges for Your Last Winter Hurrah
Located in Mountain Village, Mountain Lodge at Telluride is a classic Colorado mountain getaway. This log-cabin style lodge offers spacious condo and cabin rentals for groups from two to 14 people. Most rooms have kitchens, gas fireplaces, and private balconies in addition to small touches like humidifiers to battle the dry Colorado air. One highlight of this hotel is the year-round outdoor pool and hot tub with sweeping mountain views. A cozy restaurant, called the View, has a huge fireplace and plenty of space to lounge over a local beer.
Wort Hotel, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Originally opened in 1941, the historic Wort Hotel (it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places) is a cozy ski lodge in downtown Jackson within walking distance of numerous shops and bars. The 59 large rooms embrace the Western theme that's standard in this area (with cowboy paintings and Western-style comforters) without being overly kitschy, and the on-site restaurant is a popular destination. The Silver Dollar Bar, built in 1950, gets its name from the bar covered in 2,032 uncirculated Morgan Silver Dollars from the Denver mint.
Stein Eriksen Lodge, Deer Valley, Utah
The luxurious 170-room Stein Erikson Lodge offers ski-in, ski-out access to Deer Valley Resort, and has gorgeous Scandanavian-inspired design style (the hotel is named after a famous Norwegian skier). Rooms are spacious and some have stone fireplaces. Besides the highly reputed spa, the two restaurants (make sure to try Stein's Burger) and year-round outdoor pool add to the lodge's popularity.
Cedar Glen Lodge, Lake Tahoe, California
Sitting in a small forest area across the street from Lake Tahoe, the Cedar Glen Lodge is a throwback to a simpler time with its motor-lodge design and woodsy cabins. Lake access, a heated outdoor pool with whirlpool and sauna, an outdoor fire pit, charming lodge-style rooms, and an excellent restaurant all help make the Cedar Glen a great value.
Stowe Mountain Lodge, Vermont
Stowe Mountain Lodge is one of the top luxury properties in Vermont, and offers rustic elegance throughout -- from the impressive lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows to the bright, contemporary rooms. This property has a lot in the way of amenities, particularly for the area: an inviting spa, big outdoor pool with mountain views, acclaimed restaurant, state-of-the-art fitness center, 18-hole golf course, and great children's program.
The Arrabelle at Vail Square, a RockResort
This rustic-luxe, chalet-inspired lodge is one of Vail's premier options, with a location in the heart of Vail Square, near the Eagle Bahn lift. The luxurious rooms feature gorgeous bathrooms, fireplaces, and (in many) scenic balconies. The lobby has a huge stone fireplace, high-back leather chairs, and a dramatic cast-iron chandelier.
Hope Lake Lodge, Finger Lakes, New York
The 106-room Hope Lake Lodge is practically a town unto itself. Ample activities in the area abound, as the property sits next to the highest point in the county -- the ski resort -- which is attached to a year-round adventure center for zip lining and snow tubing, to name a few options. While it's easy for kids to stay entertained, adult activities include signature cocktails next to the lobby's cozy fireplace and spa treatments. The property has a Northwoods decor throughout, and many details were crafted from vendors in the area. The staff is made up of family members, students, and long-time locals, and the resort exudes a relaxed home-away-from-home environment.
