The 457-room Royal Wings Hotel
is an upscale, all-inclusive property featuring one of the largest swimming
pools in Lara, a popular resort destination a 20-minute drive from Antalya Airport. With
sleek contemporary architecture and well-presented gardens, it's
one of the better looking hotels in the area, while also featuring a great range of
facilities and entertainment for all ages, including a water park and a fun fair. Rooms are bright and spacious, with private balconies or terraces, though the free Wi-Fi is a bit spotty. While the all-inclusive rate covers
most food and drinks at the array of on-site restaurants and bars, expect to pay for plenty of extras -- a more comprehensive
plan can be found at the nearby Delphin Imperial Hotel.
Scene
Sleek and creative architecture set on 18 acres of impressive gardens
A playful
allusion to the hotel's name, visitors first pass under a winged front gate onto
a palm-lined driveway that sits alongside a colorful on-site aqua park to arrive at
the imposing facade of the Royal Wings Hotel. A crowned portico marks the main entrance
under which a large revolving door ushers guests into the impressive reception
area where smart contemporary furnishings are neatly arranged on polished wood and
stone floors around a wing-shaped atrium that soars up to a dazzling skylight.
An oval central atrium also bathed in natural light has sleek glass elevators
that ferry guests to one of 10 floors. Opened in 2005, the property maintains
sharp, 21st-century styling throughout while its smart modern architecture
extends to a cleverly designed -- and enormous -- pool area that flows around
18 acres of gardens. These meticulously arranged landscaped grounds also lead
directly to the hotel's private sandy beach overlooking the Mediterranean sea.
Location
Just east of Antalya and a 20-minute drive to the airport
The hotel is
located in the district of Lara set between a long stretch of sandy beach and
main coastal highway that connects to the popular Turkish resort destination of Antalya. Set
overlooking the Mediterranean on Turkey's south coast, the property is
surrounded by similar hotels, shopping malls, and souvenir shops, though there's not
much in the way of restaurants and bars beyond those on-site. The location does
makes for easy access to Antalya Airport, which can be reached in around 20 minutes by car, while
downtown Antalya takes about a half-hour.
Rooms
Bright rooms open to furnished balconies, some with sea views
The hotel has 457
rooms, all of which are bright and modern with carpeted floors and sliding
doors that open onto furnished terraces or balconies, some of which offer lovely sea views. Many have color palettes of teal, beige, and cream. All
rooms are air-conditioned (though some complain the units are not strong enough) and come with minibars (restocked daily with
soft drinks, beer, and water), flat-screen TVs with some satellite channels, and free Wi-Fi, though there are reports of poor service. Suites also come with living rooms and in-room whirlpool tubs, while
Duplex Family Rooms are spread over two floors with two separate bedrooms and
bathrooms. Some guests have complained about beds being too firm.
Features
Water-based facilities include huge swimming pool and on-site aqua park, plus plenty of restaurants and bars
The hotel's main
central feature is the huge pool that winds through the hotel's gardens -- at
over 40,000 square feet it's one of the largest in the region. Other impressive
water-based facilities include an on-site aqua park with various slides
and flumes, as well as a wave pool, kids' splash pools, and a lazy river
(though most are closed during the winter). A heated indoor pool is open
during the winter, while the spa -- offering Turkish bath, sauna, and a range
of massage treatments -- is open all year. Child-friendly facilities
include a mini-club and even a small fun fair with a ferris wheel and carousel. Most of the
dining takes place at the main buffet restaurant, which is open for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner, while there's also four a la carte eateries covering
seafood, Asian, and Italian fare. There are a wide range of bars that
include a healthy juice bar, disco bar, and beach bar. Day and nighttime entertainment is generally good quality and involves games, live music, and some
cabaret.
All-Inclusive / Food
24-hour room service, though fee for a la carte dining
The hotel's
all-inclusive plan covers buffet-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the main
buffet restaurant (all a la carte eateries incur a cover charge). Snacks
including ice cream, pizza, kebabs, and Turkish pastries are also provided
at select times between meals. A range of mostly locally produced alcoholic and
soft drinks are also included as well as some international brands -- all
available 24-hours via room service. Water sports are not included in the plan
and are expensive.
