The Frangipani Beach Resort is a surprisingly lively four-pearl option amid the resorts, beach restaurants, and condos along Mead’s Bay. Since 2017's horrible hurricane season, the hotel is fully open for business. It's small status keeps things intimate, and the resort offers a wide selection of free water-sports equipment, an excellent and popular restaurant, and pool overlooking the stunning white sands of the adjacent beach. That beach was one of the prettiest we found during our early 2017 visit. The 19 rooms are pleasant and spacious, with air-conditioning, patios, and free Wi-Fi, though water pressure and temperature can be inconsistent in the bathrooms. For those who don't need as many features, Carimar Beach Club is a secluded option at far end of Mead’s Bay and is often less expensive.
Scene
Intimate beachfront boutique resort with familial charm and a lively social vibe
The lavish pink and cream Spanish-Mediterranean architecture that greets guests at Frangipani Beach Resort fits in perfectly with the resort's scenic surroundings along Mead’s Bay. This boutique property -- run by husband-and-wife team Shannon and Scott (who are always on hand) -- manages to feel both homey and lively at the same time. While it's a small resort, there are a number of spots to while away the day: from the gorgeous beach and beachside pool to the popular restaurant and bar. Like the best Anguilla resorts, the vibe here is relaxed, but social and you're likely to find travelers swapping stories over drinks every evening as the sun goes down. We spotted plenty of retired couples and friends from North America and Europe during our visit. However, at other times of year you're likely to encounter families here as well.
Location
Right on the beach in the heart of Mead's Bay
It's hard to argue with the setting of the Frangipani Beach Resort. It sits right in the middle of Mead's Bay, along what might be one of the prettiest beaches on Anguilla. The hotel is within walking distance of a handful of restaurants and bars, including the tony Four Seasons, casual beach bars, and Blanchard’s Beach Shack -- a popular local dining spot. All are within a five-minute walk. The supermarket is also conveniently less than five minutes away on foot should you need any provisions. Anguilla’s international airport is about 15 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Spacious rooms with Caribbean touches plus air-conditioning, outdoor space, and free Wi-Fi; some with ocean views
The 19 rooms at Frangipani are spacious and have an understated Caribbean look. Expect paddle fans, abundant neutral hues, marble floors, and hardwood touches. It's worth noting that lower-category units can look a little plain and don't quite live up to the hotel's own luxury claims. That, of course, changes with higher-category bookings where decor and perks expand significantly. Each unit varies slightly, but all have patios or balconies, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and mini-fridges. The less expensive units feature smaller patios and lack views, while the best have stellar vantages across the pool and Mead's Bay. A number of different configurations are available, from classic entry-level Standard Luxury Rooms to multi-bedroom suites and even a private villa. The latter is an amazing, posh choice for groups, and both private chefs and butlers can be added to villas for an extra fee. The suites and the villa include full kitchens and extras like washers and dryers. The villa adds its own private pool. Big bathrooms feature walk-in showers with fancy rainfall showerheads. Despite functions to change showerhead water patterns and speeds, the water pressure and temperature can be inconsistent here. They are otherwise brightly lit and include double sinks, large closets, and Gilchrist and Soames bath products.
Features
Stunning beach, free water sports, two pools, and a wildly popular restaurant on-site
Despite its small stature, Frangipani manages to pack a lot of extras into a stay here, and some have even helped make it locally famous. For starters, though, there's the beach. This stunning stretch of white sand is backed by aquamarine water that's the definition of picture perfect. The hotel has loungers and palapas set up on the sand for those who want to do nothing more than relax. Beach service is available. There are also two pools, though most travelers only use the one that sits right next to the beach. Poolside service is also available. The second pool is reserved for guests of the suites.Straw Hat restaurant -- found on-site -- might just be the jewel in this hotel's crown, as it scores rave reviews from previous guests. It draws a loyal local following, as well as tourists from across the island. Fresh seafood and local flavors are on offer, and it's a popular place for all-day and evening drinks. In fact, it forms the social heart of the resort. Continental breakfasts are free here for guests, while a la carte options can be purchased (and the hotel provides credits for these breakfasts).Frangipani offers snorkeling equipment, floats, kayaks, and paddleboards for free, as well as two Hobie Cats for sailing around Mead’s Bay. Free motorized activities are also available, so guests can try waterskiing, wakeboarding, or tubing as well. The ample beach activities make up for the fitness center, which was renovated in 2015, but has very few machines and free weights. Petals Boutique is next to the lobby and stocks beachwear for men and women, with local pieces as well as items from around the world. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property and there is plenty of parking.
