Son Don Pedro sits a short distance from the beachfront promenade that lines Bajondillo beach. It shares its features with two neighboring Melia Hotels (Sol Don Marco, Sol Don Pablo), which together make up the Don Hotels Complex, so guests get access to the amenities of three hotels for the price of one. There are eight outdoor pools (two children’s pools) and one indoor pool (for during the off-season), all of which have ample lounge areas and are surrounded by gardens. The two buffets have show cooking, and there multiple bars, including a pool bar -- just note that some venues may close in the off season. Other features of note include a small mirrored fitness center and a full-service spa with Roman bath, sauna, and whirlpool. Sol Don Pedro is the second-largest and one of the more family-friendly options in the complex, but it's also the farthest from the beach.
Scene
An upper-middle-range resort near the beach, in an older building with some traditional charm
Sol Don Pedro's dated stucco exterior definitely looks old, but the grounds and interiors still have a fair amount of charm. The entrance has a beautiful fountain and awning, and the lobby has brick arches, and green and terra-cotta tile floors, and wood-beam ceilings. The overall feel is still a bit dated, however. The resort draws more couples than families, but it has one of the complex's larger pools on-site as well as the children's pool, helping make it a bit more family-friendly than the Sol Don Marco. Just know it's not quite as big as the Sol Don Pablo, and it's a bit more set back from the beach.
Location
Sits on Bajondillo Beach, near downtown Torremolinos
The Don Hotels Complex is across the street from the sandy Bajondillo Beach. The beachfront promenade, which spans the entirety of the beach, can take you to downtown Torremolinos' shops, restaurants, and bars in a matter of minutes. Sol Don Pablo is centrally located in Costa del Sol and guests can easily explore the rest of the coast and outlying towns and areas via train or car. Malaga International Airport is a 10-minute drive away. Crocodile Park and Aqualand are both within a 10-minute drive, and there are six golf courses nearby.
Rooms
Smaller rooms with mountain and pool views
This property is located farther from Bajondillo Beach than the other Don Hotels Complex resorts (Son Don Marco, Son Don Pablo), so partial ocean views are not as common, but pool and mountain views abound. The 273 rooms are a bit more basic than at Son Don Pedro’s sister resorts, with terra-cotta tile floors, light pink, cheap stucco walls, and light wood furnishings. Empty mini-fridges for storing food are provided. The modern bathrooms are adequate in size and have shower/tub combos and bidets. Rooms facing the pool areas could face some noise issues from the nightly outdoor entertainment.
Features
Three hotels' features for the price of one
As one of three hotels that make up the Don Hotels Complex, Sol Don Marco has access to a range of features. Most notably, the hotel offers eight outdoor pools (including two children’s pools) and one indoor pool that are spread throughout the three resorts. The main pool on-site is one of the larger ones in the complex, and the children's pool is here as well. If desired, guests could visit a different pool each day of their stay, or stroll across the promenade to the beach (it's a slightly longer walk from here than from the other two resorts). The pools are surrounded by gardens and there is ample lounge space in each respective pool area. The full-service Spa Delfinus offers massages and body wraps among other services, as well as a Roman bath, whirlpool, and sauna. Resort spas are not common in the area, making this a major asset for the property. Facilities also include a convention center with 10 meeting rooms and a maximum capacity of 500 people. There is nightly entertainment on the outdoor stage that seats well over 1,000 people, though this can cause room noise for those not attending. The Don Hotels Complex offers an activity center for children age five and up in the summer.Recreationally, patrons can participate in a variety of on-site activities and off-site activities that the hotel offers. On-site, the hotel has everything from free table tennis, dance classes, and lawn games to a sports pitch for tennis, basketball, and soccer (for a fee). If guests are interested in activities outside of Sol Don Marco, the hotel can help arrange day trips to nearby Mijas, Marbella, Fuengirola, and Nerja. Organized excursions to Ronda, Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Gibraltar, and Morocco are also offered from third parties. Guests can also go horseback riding with a guide along the beach or through the mountains.
