The Roc Hotel Flamingo is an affordable, cheerful, budget-friendly beach hotel. The 11-floor, 243-room building has an '80s vibe, and definitely does not impress with dated, basic decor. Right out the door, though, is the center of lively Torremolinos. The ocean is a 10-minute walk, and each room has a private balcony for soaking in fresh sea air. There's a pleasant outdoor pool with rows of lounge chairs, but expect crowds both here and at the buffet. All in all, it's a decent value, but for closer proximity to the sand, consider the similarly priced Bajondillo Apartments.
Scene
A serviceable, pleasant, generic spot near the beach
The Roc Hotel Flamingo is a big, boxy, sunshine-yellow beach hotel. The outdated lobby is full of tacky furniture; the hotel would benefit hugely from a coat of paint and a facelift. Yet the Roc Flamingo is clean, bright, and cheery. The experience feels beachy and pleasant. The top-floor rooms have the best views, but also require patience -- the elevators fill up fast and run at a annoyingly leisurely speed. You'll need that patience for waiting for the breakfast buffet, too. The elderly Spanish set love it here, although beach-revelers of all ages flock to the Roc Flamingo in high tourist season. Sun worshippers fill up the pool and outdoor lounge space, so claiming your own piece of poolside real estate proves challenging.** **
Location
The Roc Hotel Flamingo positions you smack in the heart of Torremolinos, and a 10-minute walk from the beach.
The Hotel Roc Flamingo is on a busy Torremolinos street, up close and personal to all of the touristy bars, restaurants, shops, and attractions. The commercial nerve center lies right out the door. Guests can take a lovely 10-minute stroll downhill to El Bojondillo Beach. Or if you are not up to it, a free bus shuttles between the beach and the hotel every 30 minutes from June until September.** **
Rooms
Run-of-the-mill rooms with balconies and sunshine
The Roc Hotel Flamingo has clean, non-fancy, bright rooms, with sufficient but unappealing furniture and a hum-drum chain-hotel feel. The balconies are the rooms’ best feature. The corner rooms have terraces that wrap around the building, for poolside and street views. From the balconies on the highest floor, you can see the ocean, and the evening sunlight is nothing short of beautiful. Rooms near the pool can get noisy. Guests will also find a set of basic toiletries and a small, flat-screen TVs.** **
Features
A serviceable, crowded pool, and a nothing-special buffet
The Roc Flamingo has a pleasant outdoor pool flanked with rows of lounge chairs -- both fill up early and stay crowded all day (and night) long. The hotel opens a massage tent in the summer, and guests can also get service in-room. Kids can splash in the nearby circular children’s pool, or play ping-pong. Those visiting with a car can park in the underground lot for a fee. Guests will have to pay for Wi-Fi, too. A no-frills buffet restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner that will fill you up, but certainly not wow you.** **
