Bottom Line
The mid-range, 400-room Puerto Antilla Grand Hotel is family resort located on a gorgeous Costa de la Luz beach in the province of Huelva. The resort is geared toward families with kids -- right down to the nightly entertainment -- and the staff works hard to keep the children busy, so parents get to vacation, too. The five outdoor swimming pools, indoor pool, spa hot tub and steam room, and, of course, the exquisite beach make this hotel a good choice for guests who want sun, sand, surf, and swimming. While there is little or no commercial activity in town, shops, bars, and supermarkets are within walking distance. Bed-and-breakfast, half-board, and full-board rates are available.

Scene
Gorgeous tropical gardens, pretty pool bar, live music nightly
The Puerto Antilla Grand Hotel is designed and decorated in the Andalusian colonial style, with high arches, hanging plants, and beautiful dark woodwork. The five-story lobby atrium soars; it's so big that entire trees are growing inside. There is live music nightly in the El Jardin golf bar, which has large golf course photographs on display -- they're so big that guests could almost walk right into them. The El Mirador grill and poolside bar sits on a little rise off the pool area, under a pair of thatched pavilions, furnished with white wrought-iron tables and chairs. Fish, meat, and, obviously, cocktails are available here all day long. Les Porches, the resort's buffet restaurant, is modern, but brightly lit for an atmospheric dinner service. The buffet can become crowded at peak times. All in all, the Puerto Antilla, with its lush landscaping, beautiful beach, and vast grounds is gorgeous, and travelers who want to relax while getting a good bang for their buck will likely not be disappointed.
Location
On the boardwalk, next to a 27-hole golf course
The Puerto Antilla Grand Hotel sits on the boardwalk beside a beautiful Costa de la Luz beach. The neighboring town of Lepe is a beach resort town, made up mostly of hotels and private homes, without a great deal of commerce, or cultural and historic sites. Five minutes walk from the hotel, there are shops, bars, tapas restaurants, and supermarkets. The Islantilla Golf Club is right next door. The beach is excellent for water sports such as wind and kite surfing, sailing, and canoeing.
Rooms
Peaceful rooms with lovely views and plenty of space
Rooms at the Puerto Antilla Grand Hotel have lovely views of either the palm tree garden and pool or the beach promenade and town. Some rooms have balconies or terraces, and some have slanted ceilings that give the rooms a cozy feeling. Clean and spacious, the rooms' decor is modern, with nice wood furniture, wicker headboards, terra-cotta tile floors, and drapes and spreads in Spanish colors of red, gold, and brown. Rooms include free Wi-Fi, minibars, flat screens (two of them in junior suites), and safes, although they're not large enough to stash a laptop.
Features
Five swimming pools, full-service spa, conference center
The Puerto Antilla Grand Hotel has five outdoor swimming pools -- lake-shaped, with islands and little footbridges, plus one for the kids, and an indoor, heated pool in the spa. The Prestige Club Sport Wellness & Spa offers state of the art massage, body, and beauty treatments, along with a sauna, steamroom, and whirlpool. There is a TV/game room, and the Mini Club includes a playroom and outdoor playground. Each evening, the entertainment is geared toward involving the entire family in the fun. The conference center and meeting rooms are large and modern, and groups will likely enjoy the hotel's set-up.
