The Ohtels Campo de Gibraltar is a three-pearl option a short drive from the historic center of Gibraltar, and five minutes’ walk from the center of La Linea de Conception. The hotel’s decor is pretty generic and bland throughout, but the 225 rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, kettles, and furnished balconies. Features include a sunny pool terrace, buffet restaurant, and pool bar that serves drinks and light meals. There is secure underground parking, but it comes at a cost, as do in-room Wi-Fi and safes. Guests looking to stay on the Rock itself might want to check out the Caleta Hotel.
Scene
Stark and somewhat dated hotel with sunny pool terrace
This is a bland hotel with some dated decor, but an attractive outdoor pool and affordable rates. While the hotel’s red facade has imposing white stone jutting out that makes an impression, inside, the look is drab, with gray tile floors, plain white walls, and worn black chairs in the lobby. The buffet restaurant is a brighter, but equally lackluster space with wooden tables and chairs, while the bar has colorful striped couches and a high-back bright-red chair that are dated but at least provide some personality. The hotel attracts tourists, both couples and families with kids in tow, looking to stay close to Gibraltar and a brief stroll from the beach.
Location
Few minutes' walk to the beach and bars
There’s not much in the immediate vicinity of the Ohtels Campo de Gibraltar, but the center of La Linea de Conception is a five-minute walk away, where there are lots of bars and restaurants. It's also a five-minute stroll to the wide, sandy beach next to the Alcaidesa Marina. In the other direction, Gibraltar is a short drive or bus ride across the border -- there is a bus from Market Place in the town center. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from the old town, and it’s 15 minutes by car to the cable car that leads up to the top of the Rock. Expect transfers to Malaga Airport to take between 80 and 100 minutes by car, while it’s a 75-minute journey to Jerez Airport.
Rooms
Sparsely decorated rooms with flat-screen TVs and furnished balconies
The 225 rooms here have decor similarly lackluster as the public areas, with gray tiled floors, taupe walls, wood furniture in different stain shades, and brown bed runners and drapes. Double Rooms have either one king-sized bed or two single beds, a desk that doubles up as a flat-screen TV stand, and a mini-fridge. Junior Suites, meanwhile, have a separate living room with a sofa bed, as well as a dining table and two chairs. Bathrooms are contemporary, outfitted with shiny brown tiling and black marble accents, a bidet, and shower/tub combo with a plastic curtain. A hairdryer and basic toiletries are provided. Furnished balconies have a table and chairs. In-room Wi-Fi and safes require fees. Note that some past guests have complained of noise issues.
Features
All the expected three-pearl amenities except for a gym
The Ohtels Campo de Gibraltar has all of the amenities expected for a mid-range property, except for a gym. The most attractive feature is the outdoor mosaic-tiled pool set in a sunny terrace with loungers under palapa-style umbrellas and dining sets. A buffet restaurant serves cooked options like eggs and pancakes at breakfast, and international fare for dinner buffet. The pool bar serves drinks and light meals throughout the day. The hotel offers secure underground parking for a fee, and a variety of conference rooms that can be rented. Free Wi-Fi is accessible in the common areas, but in-room access comes at a cost.
