Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range MS Aguamarina Apartments has 130 rooms in Torremolinos, a quick four-minute walk from the beach. A plethora of restaurants, bars, and shops are in the immediate area. The 130 rooms and apartment-style units are contemporary, spacious, and air-conditioned, but not all have balconies and both safes and Wi-Fi requires fees. A good array of on-site amenities consist of an outdoor pool with separate kiddy pool, heated indoor pool, sauna, small gym, and massage services on request. The restaurant serves buffet-style breakfast and dinner, plus there's a snack bar. On the downside, kitchenettes are small, maintenance issues occur, and some guests have reported thin walls. Families with young kids may prefer Hotel Sol Principe, which offers more in terms of entertainment.

Scene

Contemporary, albeit underwhelming, hotel attracting some self-catering travelers

The MS Aguamarina Apartment has a bland beige exterior that belies a contemporary interior with a mostly neutral color scheme accented by pops of red and . yellow. Unfortunately, while decor is largely fresh and up-to-date, there's evident wear and some guests have reported maintenance issues such as broken furnishings. Guests are largely drawn to the property for its convenient setting near the beach and restaurants, as well as the kitchenette-equipped apartments. However, mini-fridges and limited kitchen equipment are best for simple meals. Families, couples, and groups of friends can all be found here, but note that there are no on-site activities or entertainment.

Location

Relaxed setting close to the beach and restaurants

MS Aguamarina Apartments has an excellent location in the resort town of Torremolinos. Travelers are a quick four-minute walk from the beach, plus surrounded by dozens of restaurants, bars, and shops. Note, however, that the area is not known for its nightlife. It's a quick 12-minute drive to Malaga Airport. Nearby entertainment outside of the beach include Crocodile Park and La Bateria Park (30-minute walks or 10-minute drives), and Aqualand Torremolinos (seven-minute drive).

Rooms

Contemporary, air-conditioned rooms with kitchenettes and balconies in some

Decor and color schemes vary a bit between rooms, but all are contemporary and clean-lined. Expect beige marble floors, simple wood furniture, faux-leather sofas, and pops of red, yellow, or purple in accent walls, bed linens, and seating. While spacious and air-conditioned, some wear is evident and not all have balconies, plus there have been reports of thin walls. Also on the downside, in-room Wi-Fi and use of safes requires fees. Travelers staying here for the self-catering facilities may find the kitchenettes -- which are in suites and have mini-fridges, two-burner hobs, and microwaves -- a bit limiting. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, desks, closets, sofas, and mini-fridges. Bathrooms have either shower/tub combos or walk-in showers, free toiletries, and hairdryers.

Features

Good-sized outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, and buffet restaurant

The crowning feature of the hotel is its good-sized outdoor pool with a small separate shallow area for young kids. An adjacent terrace has sunbeds, but they're limited given the number of rooms. During poor weather, guests can utilize the heated indoor pool. Other wellness facilities include a sauna, massages on request, and a small fitness center. A restaurant serves international fare buffet-style for breakfast and dinner. A snack bar is available for beverages and light lunches. Free Wi-Fi is limited to the lobby.
