Bottom Line

Las Rampas is a lower-middle-range hotel with a central location in Fuengirola, just a five-minute walk from the beach. Guests are also within easy walking distance of public transportation, bars, restaurants, and entertainment options. The hotel updated their room linens starting in 2014, but the rooms are largely still dated and in need of a refurbishment. While the 159 rooms have small flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning, they lack mini-fridges and kettles, plus safes require a fee. Additionally, only a handful have balconies. Though there is much to do in the surrounding area, the on-site facilities are limited to a small outdoor pool, buffet restaurant, and meeting room. Families traveling to the Costa del Sol area may prefer Tryp Guadalmar in Malaga, which has more kid-friendly features.

Scene

Dated value property with a few pleasant Mediterranean accents

Las Rampas has a dated interior design throughout, from the orange-and-white-striped chairs and wood paneling inside the lobby, to the yellow and orange tablecloths in the main restaurant. Easily the most attractive space is the courtyard and surrounding hallways. The space has a Mediterranean feel, with a fountain that spans three stories, white tile, and lots of potted plants. The surrounding open-air hallways have lovely white railings, stone floors, benches, hand-painted plants along the walls, and stained-glass arched windows. Unfortunately, this pleasant decor doesn't carry into the rooms or the outdoor pool, which looks like it could use a fresh coat of paint. Despite these drawbacks, the central location makes it a popular pick for couples who don't mind the old-fashioned furnishings.

Location

Central location close to beach, bars, and restaurants

Las Rampas hotel is in a great location in Fuengirola, as many of the city's hot spots are a short walk away. The beach is quick five-minute walk, as are a bus and train station. Other entertainment options, such as Bioparc Fuengirola (nine minutes), the Fuengirola Street Market (18 minutes), Sould Park (nine minutes), Centro Comercial Miramar (23 minutes) and Tu Casa Skate Park (23 minutes), are all within walking distance. There are plenty of bars and restaurants surrounding the hotel, too. The popular Speak Easy Jazz Club & Cocktails and the well-rated Meson de Andres restaurant are both a three-minute walk from the hotel.

Rooms

Spacious but dated, plus rooms lack mini-fridges

Rooms are spacious and clean, but have outdated furnishings throughout. Decor varies from room to room to some degree, but all have pretty gray marble floors, light-wood wicker furniture, and white walls with a couple pieces of artwork. Some rooms have dated striped bedding, while others have slightly more contemporary patterned bedspreads. Floating headboards have small shelves on either side of the bed, plus there are work desks and occasionally sitting areas with tables. Standard amenities include air-conditioning units, free Wi-Fi, small flat-screen TVs, and pay-to-use safes. Notably missing, however, are mini-fridges and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Additionally, only a handful of rooms have balconies. Bathrooms are well-sized and have tile in varying colors, shower/tub combos, wall-mounted hairdryers, free basic bath products, and bidets.

Features

Casual restaurant and snack bar, a small pool, and beach access

On-site facilities are few at Las Rampas, particularly for kids. The only true leisure feature is the outdoor pool. It's lined with plastic loungers and has a quiet vibe, but it's a bit small. Easy and direct access to the beach is one of the hotel's greatest perks, and there, guests can rent loungers and umbrellas. A meeting room, Free Wi-Fi, and internet corner with computers (for a fee) complete the amenities. The buffet restaurant offers half-board and full-board options, though only during peak season. Previous guests have noted that the food here is good, and the breakfast selection offers a good variety of choices. A casual snack bar is also available and offers alfresco dining.
