Bottom Line

The 344-room Confortel Islantilla is an mid-range chain hotel offering all-inclusive or room-only packages. It's located just steps from the beach in Isla Cristina. There is not much to do in the surrounding area, but the resort has an enormous pool surrounded by sun beds, as well as a supervised baby club with limited hours. Rooms are bright, clean, and contemporary, though they're not upscale and do experience noise issues. The crowd tends to be predominately Spaniards on holiday.

Scene

Terraces, lawns, and Andalusian food

The Confortel Islantilla's mission is relaxation and ease, and the clientele, predominately Spaniards on vacation, takes this seriously. Families and groups of friends traveling together congregate for meals and beach time, and the hotel's decor is bright and cheery, as if a reflection of this Spanish holiday spirit. From the moment guests drive up, the vibrant color scheme of red, orange, and yellow is evident on the outside of the building's balconies. The lobby is airy and open, with white floors, comfy-looking striped couches for hanging out, light wood, and large windows. Strolling the grounds, guests will find plenty of areas to sit for drinks and conversation, or they can wander the nicely landscaped gardens, where there are tortoises, native birds, and occasionally roosters.

Location

On a white-sand beach, next to a golf course

The Confortel Islantilla is a few steps away from a gorgeous white-sand beach, and many rooms have panoramic sea views. The hotel is not in a town or shopping area, although there are two shopping malls a little more than a half mile away. Tourists whose goal is to relax and unwind will find ample opportunity here. The Islantilla golf course is practically right next door.

Rooms

Simple, elegant rooms with large windows and furnished balconies

Rooms at the Confortel Islantilla are spotless and simply decorated, with bright orange and red walls and textiles, enormous windows, and furnished balconies that bring the sun and heat of the Costa de la Luz inside. Floor-to-ceiling drapes and sheer curtains add elegance to guestrooms, as does the modern, restrained decor. TVs have satellite channels, but not all rooms have flat screens. Mini-fridges and safes are provided, and the bathrooms are clean, modern, and spacious.

Features

Good food, fitness center, enormous pool

The Confortel Islantilla offers a la carte and buffet dining, with Andalusian seafood and specialties on the menu; the food gets mixed reviews. Breakfast is plentiful, with eggs cooked to order. The pool is enormous, surrounded by lawns and sun beds. The poolside bar and cafe is similarly large, with couches, tables, and wicker chairs, and a choice of sitting in the sun or under a lovely wooden lanai. The indoor pool is big for the area, and is enclosed in a greenhouse-style building, making even a winter swim feel tropical. There is a fitness center, tennis court, putting green, and spa. There is a supervised baby club for children ages eight months to three years, though it is only available during limited hours.
