Bottom Line

The 176-room Hotel TRH Paraiso Costa del Sol is a mid-range property set a 20-minute drive from Estepona and Marbella. Decor-wise, the hotel feels dated and generic, though everything's clean. Bare-bones rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges, but no free Wi-Fi, and only some rooms promise a balcony. There's little in the immediate area, though a couple of golf courses attract guests looking to hit the links. On-site, there are an indoor and outdoor pool, a pool bar, spa facilities, and plenty of entertainment options for kids, including a kids' club. All rates include buffet breakfasts, and all-inclusive packages are available. Past complaints include too-firm beds, thin walls, lukewarm food, and minimal entertainment. Travelers wanting a beachfront getaway should consider the more contemporary Hotel Fuerte Estepona, though rates are higher.

Scene

Simple hotel with array of features, but in need of an update

Hotel TRH Paraiso Costa del Sol is a simple, family-friendly property attracting primarily Spanish travelers on vacation. Interiors are dated and underwhelming, with lots of old-fashioned linens, simple wood furniture, and old blue tiling. Outdoor spaces are lovely, however, thanks to a large green lawn housing a big pool, kiddy pool, and plenty of lounge chairs. Trees line the perimeter, and travelers can see the sea from higher floors. Features like the spa, kids' club and playground, and entertainment staff help keep guests busy, though many opt to take a car and explore the area. Thin guest room walls can be an issue for some, but generally this hotel is quiet and laid-back.

Location

Quiet, residential area near to golf courses

Hotel TRH Paraiso Costa del Sol has a quiet location in a largely residential area. It's equidistant from the towns of Marbella and Estepona, about a 20-minute drive from both. There's little in the immediate surrounds, though two golf courses are under a five-minute drive from the property. Several restaurants, a supermarket, and the beach can be reached in a 10-minute drive. Malaga Airport typically takes between a 45-minute and one-hour drive.

Rooms

Simple rooms with basic decor, air-conditioning, and safes for rent

Rooms are simple, bland, and dated. They're outfitted with wood floors and matching furniture, including desks, brown accent walls, and brown and white linens. Some units add small locally inspired paintings that provides some character. Suites have separate living spaces with old patterned couches and matching armchairs. A few notable downsides include thin walls that lead to noise issues, the fee to rent safes (common for area), and the lack of balconies in some units. Nevertheless, some units do have balconies with distant sea views, and all rooms come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges. Straightforward bathrooms have shower/tub combos, small wall-mounted hairdryers, and hotel-brand sachet toiletries.

Features

Outdoor and indoor pools, kid-friendly entertainment, and spa facilities

This hotel offers both couples and families plenty to do on-site. The highlight is certainly the large L-shaped outdoor pool, which has an adjacent circular kiddy pool. The surrounding lawn is lined with loungers and a handful of umbrellas, plus there are a playground and volleyball net near the children's pool. An indoor lap pool and hot tub are also available. A seasonal pool bar provides snacks and drinks. All rates include a varied hot and cold breakfast buffet, and all-inclusive packages are available. All-inclusive rates cover three buffet meals, snacks at certain times, beer and "tinto de verano" (cold wine that's similar to sangria) at dinner, and a variety of drinks at the bar. Unfortunately, some past guests have complained of lukewarm food.An indoor game room, small wellness area with massage rooms and a sauna, and meeting spaces are also available. An entertainment team is on hand, but activities are minimal. Parking is free, but Wi-Fi is only free in common areas.
