The mid-range, 330-room Hotel Puertobahia & Spa is a casual haven for sun- and beach-seeking tourists, as it sits directly on Valdelagrana Beach beside the village of El Puerto de Santa Maria. Rooms are crisp and clean, with balconies and nautical colors. Scene

Casual, with lots of open space, and maritime touches

The Hotel Puertobahia & Spa is a relaxed vacation spot where the sea is the star attraction. The lobby is bright and immense, but lacks style -- guests can dress casually for cocktails at the Mirador lobby bar, a large space with somewhat haphazardly scattered tables and chairs and a maritime theme. The Oceano Restaurant Buffet is also a mammoth, brightly lit space with rows of basic wooden tables and chairs -- the room lacks character, but the casual vibe suits families who've spent a day swimming, sailing, and sunning. Hallways and other spaces are nondescript but clean and beach-y, with plenty of nooks where guests can sit, relax, and gaze out at the gorgeous beach.

Location

On the boardwalk and beach, an hour from Seville

The Hotel Puertobahia & Spa sits directly on a lovely promenade and beautiful beach, about nine miles from downtown Cadiz and one hour from historic Seville. There is a commercial port nearby, and the immediate area includes bars, restaurants, and shops. Guests who want to tour the area should rent a car, as the bus service is infrequent, but there is free parking available. This is a hotel for beach-lovers, above all else.

Rooms

Clean and modern, with furnished balconies and sea views

Rooms at the Hotel Puertobahia and Spa are all basically the same, except for the size: simply decorated in nautical blue and white with wood floors and furniture. The vibe is clean and spare, but not super modern. The art on the walls depicts lighthouses and other ocean themes. Balconies are private and nicely furnished with fantastic sea and beach views. Rooms have free Wi-Fi, minibars, and flat-screen TVs, but no in-room safes. Rooms and bathrooms are smallish, but not uncomfortably cramped.

Features

Lovely spa, BBQ grills, big pool, and poolside bar

The Hotel Puertobahia & Spa is primarily a beach hotel, but pool lovers will enjoy the large outdoor pool (open seasonally only) with spacious lawn and sun-beds, along with the poolside bar and grill. The spa has pretty blue tiles and warm wood, and offers a full menu of massage and beauty treatments -- plus an indoor pool, thermal pool, sauna, and steam, accessible to all guests. The fitness center is on the small side, but clean, with cardio machines and some free weights. There are barbecue grills on the grounds for guest use, along with a spare playground for kids. Parking is free but limited. There is a buffet restaurant and an a la carte restaurant -- the food is pretty basic international cuisine -- as well as the poolside grill for casual meals all day long.
