Bottom Line

The 19-room, mid-range Hotel Los Arcos is located in a quiet area of Nerja with little to do in the immediate vicinity, but within walking distance of restaurants, bars, and the beach, too. Playa Burriana, a popular beach in the area, is just a 20-minute walk away. Guest rooms are dated but pleasant, equipped with free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, mini-fridges with free water bottles, and flat-screen TVs, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities and furnished terraces. On-site features include a pretty pool with loungers, well-reviewed restaurant, and bar offering happy hours throughout the week. Travelers looking to be closer to the beach may prefer the comparable Parador de Nerja, which has direct beach access and a few more amenities.

Scene

Family-run property with rustic interiors and Mediterranean-style details

Hotel Los Arcos is a a small, family-run property with dated but charming interiors. The exterior stone archways add character to the rouge-colored building with white lanterns. Inside, the feel is almost more like a courtyard than a lobby due to terra-cotta flooring and a (non-functioning) stone fountain in the center of the room. Potted plants are abundant here, and the base of the fountain is filled with plants as well, adding to the aesthetic of bringing the outdoors in. Stairs are adorned with colorful tiles that add to the Mediterranean style of the hotel. This vibe continues into the restaurant and bar, as well as the outdoor pool surrounded by greenery and straw umbrellas. The relaxed atmosphere and lack of kid-centric facilities make the property best for vacationing couples.

Location

Quiet area, walking distance to beach and restaurants

For some previous guests, the location of the hotel is a negative mainly because there isn't much immediately outside the hotel doors aside from a supermarket (one-minute walk). There is plenty to do within a short walking distance, though. The nearby beach, Playa Burriana, is a 20-minute walk away from the property, while a seven-minute walk will bring guests to Plaza de Cavana, where there are plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops. Restaurants such as Panaderia Ruiz (13 minutes), Empanadas en Nerja (14 minutes), and Cafe Bar Pizzeria Jimenez (14 minutes) are all within walking distance. The popular Plaza Balcon de Europa is a long 28-minute walk or seven-minute drive away. Parking is available on-site and near the hotel.

Rooms

Spacious rooms equipped with modern amenities but a bit dated decor

Guest rooms at Hotel Los Arcos aren't quite as charming as the public areas, due to the dated furnishings and lack of decorative Mediterranean accents, but they're still pleasant and spacious. Design includes white tile floors, dark-red walls with a white patterned accent wall, wicker furniture occasionally painted blue, white sheets with dark-red throw pillows and blankets, and floral-patterned curtains. Furniture includes dressers and small lounge areas with chairs and tables. A few pieces of artwork also hang on the walls. Well-sized furnished private terraces are standard, though views vary. Mini-fridges with bottled water, free bottles of wine, and flat-screen TVs with DVD players and international channels are also provided, as well as free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and coffee and tea-making facilities. Bathrooms are neutrally colored with beige tiles throughout, and a little on the small side. All have walk-in showers, hairdryers, and a few free bath products. Safes are also provided for a nominal fee.

Features

Outdoor pool, plus a well-reviewed restaurant and bar

As far as entertainment goes, there isn't all that much available on the property, particularly for kids. The hotel does have a well-sized pool with plenty of free loungers and umbrellas around the patio. Palm trees around the pool lend a tropical feel to the space. There is a nice terrace bar outside with wicker dining sets near the entrance of the hotel. Adjacent to the lobby is the on-site bar that previous guests have given positive reviews, primarily for its happy hours. The all-day restaurant also receives good feedback from past guests. There's no gym. Wi-Fi is free but the connection is sometimes spotty.
