The three-pearl Hotel La Fuente De La Higuera is a quiet retreat with beautiful grounds and 11 lovely rooms geared toward couples traveling to Spain’s Andalucia region. Breathtaking views and friendly, personal service are the hallmarks of this boutique property. Amenities are limited, but lounging by the beautiful pool and enjoying delicious food at the restaurant are generally enough for most guests to have a relaxing stay. Beautiful rooms enhance the experience with an elegant blend of classic and contemporary decor. The lack of in-room mini-fridges and the 20-minute drive into town are inconveniences, however. Hotel Catalonia Reina Victoria Wellness & Spa is a beautiful, contemporary alternative in the town of Ronda, but it lacks the personal touch and gorgeous surroundings of this hotel.
Scene
Charming hotel in natural setting with incredible views, run by a family of owners
This hotel has the vibe of an old country cottage, thanks in part to gorgeous, lush grounds and rustic-chic interiors. High on a hill, surrounded by nature and farmland, it is far from villages and neighbors. Shrub-lined paths meander past palm and citrus trees, with a stunning view always in the background. Stone walls, cacti, and large, stone wheels add charm. A beautiful patio overlooking the valley is a lovely spot to enjoy a meal. Inside, spaces are small and cozy. Guests enter into a lounge with a wood stove, comfortable seating, and an honesty bar where they can fix their own drinks. Antique wood furniture, lantern pendants, and bright-red accents define the space. Large plants in oversized clay pots dominate the lounge, with fronds reaching across the room and up to the second floor. The hotel has a friendly feel with warm, helpful staff -- particularly the family of owners. Couples are drawn here for the romantic atmosphere surrounded by nature.
Location
On a hillside overlooking the village of Ronda in southern Spain’s mountainous region
This hotel is in an isolated spot, set on a hillside above Ronda, a small town in southern Spain’s Andalucia region. There are a few other hotels and some residences in the surrounding hills, but nothing of interest within walking distance. The nearby town of Ronda is the closest place to go for restaurants and shopping. A 20-minute drive into town brings guests to a parking area within walking distance of a popular pedestrian shopping area, the oldest bullfighting ring in Spain, and several museums. Ronda sits on a cliff overlooking a deep gorge, and spectacular views are accessible from two stone bridges spanning the gorge and a lookout point at the edge, all within a 20-minute drive of the hotel. It is a 15-minute drive to a bus stop and a train station in town. The nearest large city is Malaga, a 90-minute drive from the hotel. Jerez Airport -- a small airport with national and international flights -- is a 90-minute drive away.
Rooms
Beautiful, comfortable rooms have coffeemakers and stereos, but lack TVs and mini-fridges
A range of room styles are available, each with variations in decor from one to the other. Floors are tiled in a pastel shade or have painted wood, while walls are done in bright white and ivory. Furnishings and artwork are a blend of modern and classic styles, each room with a large bed prettily canopied under mosquito netting. Most rooms have cozy fireplaces, and touches like crystal chandeliers and antique rugs lend an elegant feel. All rooms have air-conditioning, stereo systems, and coffeemakers, but they lack TVs and mini-fridges. Bright, spacious bathrooms usually have shower/tub combos, though some have walk-in showers with separate tubs. Hairdryers and robes are provided, as are a full range of free Algotherm toiletries. Room options include suites with sitting areas and pullout sofas, separate bedrooms (up to two), and a two-story unit with an upstairs bedroom. Extra luxuries in higher-category rooms include a stand-alone copper bathtub, heated towel racks, or furnished terrace with an oversized tub.
Features
Delicious food at restaurant and a relaxing pool
The restaurant and pool cover the basics, but otherwise, amenities are limited. Food in the restaurant is excellent, though no meals are included in the room rate. The space is as rustic and cozy as the rest of the hotel. Seating extends to the adjacent sunroom, or onto a patio by the pool. The breakfast buffet is small and repetitive, but delicious. Lunch and dinner are ordered a la carte, plus room service is available. A small pool at the back of the hotel sits on a beautiful terrace. Wooden loungers are set on the grass, beset by palm trees and vine-covered walls. The tranquil setting is ideal for relaxing, swimming, or taking in the view. On-site parking is free, and free Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the property.
