The 87-unit Hotel Fuerte Calaceite is not a hotel, but a rambling, gated apartment complex with a reception desk at the entrance. The Fuerte Calaceite is located on the coast road between the towns of Torrox Costa and Nerja, and a car is necessary to reach any major attractions and restaurants. The whitewashed complex is modern and well-kept, with beautiful views from apartment balconies, which suits families with kids who are looking for a peaceful home base from which to explore the Costa del Sol. There are, however, no standard hotel amenities and services.
Scene
Whitewashed hilltop apartments with stunning sea views
The striking, whitewashed Hotel Fuerte Calaceite clings to the side of the hills overlooking the Costa del Sol coast road and beaches. There is no lobby, per se. The only hotel-like public area is the swimming pool, situated on a patch of grass with a few lounge chairs, and shady umbrella-like huts scattered around. The apartment complex consists of several buildings connected by tiled pathways running up and down the slopes. A wooden stairway leads down the rocky cliff face to the peaceful gray sand beach below. All apartments have private terraces, many of which have sea or sunset views. There is a nice beach restaurant reachable via a walk along the coast, but, otherwise, the peaceful area is purely residential.
Location
A good base for day trips on the Costa del Sol, and close to the beach
On the coast road between the towns of Torrox Costa and Nerja, the pathways and gardens of the Hotel Fuerte Calaceite wind up and down the hills. The area is purely residential, except for a beach bar/restaurant a short walk from the entrance. A car is necessary to reach any nearby urban area, including the small town of Torrox Costa and the larger, more touristy Nerja, whose caves are the largest in Europe. The Fuerte Calaceite is a good base for day trips to Malaga, Granada, and other points of interest. This location is not recommended for business travelers. A small beach is about 215 yards away.
Rooms
Modern and bright apartment with terraces and kitchens
The apartments at the Hotel Fuerte Calaceite are bright, airy, modern, and clean. Kitchens have granite countertops, washers and dryers, dishwashers, toasters, coffeemakers, knife blocks, and ample cook and dinnerware. Apartments have a dining table, sofa, good closet space, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels (in English). Each apartment has a terrace, but not all have sea views. Ground floor rooms have larger terraces; higher floors have better views. Bathrooms are sleek and contemporary, with double sinks, nice showers, and deep tubs.
Features
Swimming pool and convenience store
The swimming pool at the Hotel Fuerte Calaceite, open from May to October, sits on a patch of grass overlooking the cliffs of the Costa del Sol. The Fuerte Calaceite has sun shades around the property. There is a mini market on the premises with convenience foods and other necessities for purchase. Bikes are available to rent.
