Bottom Line

This upper-middle-range property has modern, elegant interiors thanks to a 2013 renovation, and sits just a five-minute walk from the beach. The Hotel Casa Consistorial is small, with just 38 rooms, and previous guests have noted that other features are compact, too -- such as the rooms and outdoor pool area. Still, rooms are contemporary, equipped with flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and safes. Three on-site bar and restaurant options plus room service are definite perks, as is the sauna and massage services. The clientele here is predominantly couples, as there isn't much here to entertain young children. Families looking for a hotel with more of a kid-friendly atmosphere might find Gran Melia Don Pepe to be a suitable choice.

Scene

Intimate property with a Mediterranean style

The hotel's Mediterranean style is already evident from the street, thanks to its tiled roof topped with metal rooster wind spinners, and wrought-iron balconies. The entrance is lined with boxed shrubs, and this clean-lined look continues inside. The marble, courtyard-like lobby has neutral-tone seating in the middle, and is surrounded by potted plants, large landscape paintings along the walls, and brass railings on the second floor. There are a few different lounge areas on the first floor, including a patio-style room with lots of seating, a (nonfunctioning) fountain in the center of the floor, and an ivy-covered wall. Paintings and lanterns adorn the walls and the glass ceiling lets in lots of light. Many guests -- who are mostly couples -- also utilize the rooftop pool deck, which is small but pretty.

Location

Excellent location, within walking distance of beach, restaurants, and shops

The hotel has a central location in Fuengirola, surrounded by countless bars, restaurants, and things to do. The beach is also a quick five-minute walk. Another popular stop for visitors is the Fuengirola Street Market, which is a 13-minute walk away. Other frequently visited spots include the zoo, Bioparc Fuengirola, a three-minute walk away, and Los Boliches, a 27-minute walk. Fuengirola also has a convenient setting for exploring well-known coastal cities such as Gibraltar and Malaga; Malaga is 36 minutes away by car, while Gibraltar is a bit farther at 90 minutes away.

Rooms

Small but attractive rooms with modern amenities

Rooms are on the small side and minimally furnished, but they're contemporary and well-maintained. Soft tones of grey and shades of beige fill the space in wood furniture, bedding, and walls, while multi-colored wood flooring adds some much-needed dimension and character to the room. Most rooms lack artwork, but they have desks, dressers, and either armchairs or full sitting areas in the case of suites. Also standard are large closets, minibars, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and  coffee and tea-making facilities. Wi-Fi and in-room safes are free too.  While some rooms do have a tiny Juliet balcony or patio, they aren't available in many. Modern bathrooms are attractive and neutrally colored as well, with variations of beige marble throughout. They're equipped with showers, a range of toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers.

Features

Spa facilities, a small pool, and three restaurants

When compared to the size of the hotel, the small-sized pool seems reasonable. Most previous guests didn't have any issues getting loungers and found the space to be tranquil and quite sunny thanks to its rooftop location. A snack bar is also located on the roof next to the pool and has shaded seating and a lounge area beneath a pergola. There is no gym on-site, but wellness facilities include a Finnish sauna next to the pool and a treatment room where guests can get massages.Three different restaurants and bars are located on-site, including the poolside snack bar. Other options include the casual Cafeteria with a well-sized bar and plenty of seating, as well as Salon Sohail which offers a more formal setting and dining experience. Food at all spots receives positive reviews.
