The 222-room Hotel Bahia Serena is an upper-middle-range beachfront hotel with apartment-style rooms complete with kitchens and balconies. There's direct beach access, picturesque sea views, and plenty of entertainment for kids (including a colorful game room) but guests have complained about outdated furnishings. A gym and small spa are convenient, but on-site food receives poor reviews. More stylish beachfront rooms are available at Protur Roquetas Hotel, but you'll lose the kitchens found at Bahia Serena.
Scene
Apartment-style hotel with stunning beach views
The Hotel Bahia Serena is a beachfront all-inclusive hotel geared towards familiar with a small stage and plenty of children's entertainment. The heart of the property is the seven-floor atrium, painted green and white with vines that dangle over arched, open-air hallways. Spanish-tiled steps are charming. The lobby desk, made of wood and marble, is flooded with natural light from the skylight in the atrium, where there are lovely lamp posts, comfortable tables and chairs for Galatea Bar patrons, and a nearby fountain. A wood-planked pathway leads directly from the hotel to the beach. The atmosphere is family-friendly, with a focus on value over style.
Location
Situated on the beach, overlooking Roquetas de Mar
Located on the sandy shores of Roquetas de Mar in Almeria is the Hotel Bahia Serena. The beach area is perfect for tourists because of fast access to bars, restaurants, horse carriage rides, a market, bike rentals, and shops with souvenirs. Playa Serena is accessible from a wooden planked walkway leading from the hotel. Golf is also in walking distance and reachable by car. The Playa Serena Golf Club is a 10-minute walk from the hotel and the Almerimar Golf Course is 27-minutes by car. The Golf Course La Envia is 25-minutes by car and Alborán Golf is a 42-minute drive. Getting to and from the airport by car takes 40 minutes.
Rooms
Spacious apartments with kitchens, serene beach views, and flat-screen TVs
Rooms are large apartments with balconies overlooking the white sandy beaches and blue waters. Furnishings in the rooms vary from dated yellow furniture to more modern design in the Superior apartments. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, bidets, and kitchens or kitchenettes with mini-fridges and two-burner stoves. Dishes and cookware are provided. Basic bathrooms include shower/tub combos covered with fabric curtains, and single sinks on a long vanity. Some rooms look onto the parking lot. Music played in the atrium can sometimes be heard until midnight, a common complaint by guests.
Features
Outdoor pools, large modern gym, and small spa
Two outdoor pools shaped like converging lakes -- including a kiddy pool -- have a view of the surrounding white arched balconies of Hotel Bahia Serena. The green deck is furnished with blue lounge chairs and artificial grass umbrellas. Infant swimming classes are available. The big on-site gym has modern equipment, a spin room, small flat-screen TVs, a large weight area, and a room for group classes like aerobics and boxing. There is also a small, clean spa. Though food options are plentiful -- two restaurants, a buffet, and bar -- the quality gets mixed reviews.
