The 114-room Hipotels Flamenco Conil is a quiet, mid-range hotel offering direct access to a lovely sandy beach a five-minute drive from central Conil. Rooms have old-fashioned decor and solid amenities, including free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with international channels, minibars, and air-conditioning. All have balconies as well, and many offer panoramic ocean views. The outdoor pool is clean and pleasant, with a separate kiddy section and plenty of loungers and umbrellas, and some entertainment during the summer. The indoor pool is a great perk in the colder months, and features a whirlpool and big windows with garden views. There are two restaurants and a snack bar on-site, but food gets mixed reviews, and there aren’t many dining options within walking distance. ILUNION Calas de Conil is a comparable hotel with slightly lower rates.
Scene
Pleasant hotel with beautiful beachfront grounds and classic interiors
Set on the cliffs above lovely Fuente del Gallo Beach, the Flamenco Conil draws mostly German and Spanish couples and families with its friendly, laid-back vibe, comfortable rooms, and convenient location. Although there is some entertainment during the day, the atmosphere is generally quiet and relaxing, and evening shows end at a reasonable time. The hotel was built in 1971, but extensive renovations in 2008 gave the property a more updated feel. The lobby is decorated in a classic style, with wrought-iron furniture, gray floor tiles, beige walls, and plush couches in neutral tones. Other indoor common areas, such as the restaurant and the bar, have a contemporary, if generic, style, with laminate floors and run-of-the-mill seating in bold colors. The lovely, peaceful outdoors are the highlight here, though, with ample manicured lawns peppered with loungers and umbrellas, a spacious main deck with two pools, and panoramic ocean views. A long set of steps takes visitors directly to the beach, which is public, but generally not crowded.
Location
Slightly isolated beachfront location, a five-minute drive from central Conil
Hipotels Flamenco Conil is located in a quiet residential area in the outskirts of Conil de la Frontera. This locale is convenient for travelers looking for some peace and quiet, and for those traveling by car, but there are limited restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. A wider range of dining, drinking, and shopping options, and several historic sights -- such as the 14th-century Guzman Tower, and Santa Catalina Church -- can be found in central Conil, located a five- to 10-minute drive away. Gorgeous Zahara de los Atunes, Barbate, and Caños de Meca beaches are all within a 35-minute drive from the hotel, and Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club can be reached in about 30 minutes. The nearest airport is in Jerez, located an hour away. The hotel offers free outdoor parking.
Rooms
Classic rooms with solid amenities and balconies -- some with great ocean views
The hotel has 114 rooms, all decorated in a classic, old-fashioned style that combines heavy wooden furniture with flowery curtains and bed runners in red and neutral hues. Laminate floors, recessed lighting, and yellow accent couches are contemporary touches, but the general feel is homey rather than fresh. All rooms feature furnished balconies, and many offer striking panoramic ocean views, but Standard Rooms overlook the hotel’s parking lot. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with a few international channels, and minibars. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, but there is a fee for use of the in-room safe, and electric kettles are not provided. Superior Rooms feature a couple of nice extra perks, including daily newspapers, robes and slippers, turndown service, and free use of the sauna. Bathrooms are generic but clean, with white tiles bordered by red-marble, salmon accent walls, and either shower/tub combos with glass screens, or shower cabins.
Features
Indoor and outdoor pools, massages, sports facilities, and two restaurants
The hotel has three lovely pools, including two outdoors and one indoors. The main and kiddy pools are set on a spacious deck surrounded by manicured lawns and offering panoramic ocean views. Guests can order drinks at the lobby bar, which has a few tables by the main pool. Steps to one side of the deck take guests directly to the beach, where there is an additional bar serving snacks and small bites. The indoor pool is pleasant, and features a big whirlpool and large windows with garden views. Guests can also use a steam room and a sauna for an extra charge, and massages are available on request. A gym, playground, tennis court, and beach volleyball court are also on-site. The hotel features buffet and a la carte dining options, but food gets mixed reviews.
