Bottom Line

This large hotel caters largely to families with children, and might not be the best choice for those without kids in tow. The property is set directly next to the Alboran Sea on the southern coast of Spain, and the 460 small but clean rooms here have a stylish 1960s retro theme that nonetheless feels modern with bright colors, flat-screen TVs, and small but sleek bathrooms. There are plenty of entertainment options aimed at small children, but performances are largely in Spanish. Overall, this property offers a solid value considering its numerous all-inclusive options, massive pool with water slides, and location near the beach.

Scene

Beachside property with a water park is popular among families with children

The resort consists of two hotels side by side, Zoraida Garden and Zoraida Park; all-inclusive packages give access to the facilities in both properties. European tourists, especially Spanish ones, constitute the majority of visitors at this chain hotel. The resort is popular among families with small children, which is understandable considering that the central feature of the property is a gigantic water park. Rooms are set in long, six-story white concrete buildings facing the sea. The wide lobby is a polished mix of light wood laminate and chrome surfaces; it has a palatial spiral staircase.

Location

A 10-minute drive from Roquetas de Mar and a short walk to the beach

Evenia Zoraida sits on a stretch of coast called the Paseo el Mar that brackets a series of hotels and cafés along a beachside promenade. The next set of restaurants and bars is about a 15-minute walk along the beach. The drive from Almeria airport takes about 40 minutes, but can take up to two hours on public transport. Roquetas de Mar, a popular resort town on the southeast coast of Spain, is a 10-minute drive away.

Rooms

Relatively modern but small rooms with a 1960s pop art vibe

The rooms here, on the small side, and all come with AC, flat-screen TVs, and balconies. The rooms are cleverly outfitted in retro hues of orange, navy blue, and lime and come with molded plastic chairs and geometric wall coverings. Bathrooms are also quite small, but are handsomely redone with slate-colored tiles and brightly hued sinks, as well as combination bathtub/showers.

Features

Three pools, one with waterslides and another for kids, and nighttime entertainment are highlights.

There are five restaurants in the resort, all of which receive fairly good reviews; some guests have commented that it's difficult to obtain reservations at the à la carte restaurants. There are three pools here, including an outdoor one with large water slides that's next to a smaller pool aimed at young children with a pirate ship and dragon play structures. The third pool is indoors and popular in winter months. The nighttime entertainment includes a kiddie disco, magic shows, and dance performances, as well as bingo and karaoke for adults.
