The 325-room Riu Belplaya is a mid-range, all-inclusive chain hotel that's a short walk from Los Alamos Beach, but is not within walking distance of Torremolinos. The all-inclusive package includes all food and beverages, and many of the hotel's activities (but Wi-Fi is extra and isn't available in rooms). Meals can be taken in the hotel's two buffet restaurants, or at the poolside bar. The building has an early '70s facade, and the lobby has a dark wood color scheme and old-style furnishings. Most rooms have balconies and partial ocean views, but decor is dated. Along with a petanque court and a bowling green, there's a large outdoor pool and children’s pool, and an indoor pool that is open in the winter. There's also a kids' club with extensive activities.
Scene
An older hotel with an indoor and outdoor pool (the indoor pool is open only in the winter), two restaurants, bars, lounges, and a kids' club
The Riu Belplaya, built in 1972, is older than other hotels around Torremolinos. The lobby has a lot of dark wood, and its chairs and tables look a bit ornate. Because it's an all-inclusive, guests tend to stick around the resort, which -- aside from the pool -- has a petanque court, a bowling green, and a reading lounge. Families with young children can use the kids' club, arcade/game room, and children’s pool to keep the kids happy and busy, but the hotel attracts about double as many couples.
Location
Far from downtown, but close to beaches
The hotel is a far walk from the Torremolinos center, where the majority of shops and restaurants are. Without a car, it's probably best to take a taxi to get there. There are some restaurants near the hotel, but they're not as lively as what's available in Torremolinos. The airport is within a 15-minute drive, and the hotel offers airport transportation. Los Alamos Beach and Bajondillo Beach are a short walk away.
Rooms
Dated, standard-sized rooms with terraces and partial ocean views
The 325 rooms at Riu Belplaya Hotel, which was built in 1972, are standard size, but the decor is dark and dated, with a heavy deep-yellow color scheme and tube TVs -- no flat-screens here. The rooms, though, are clean, and most have private terraces and ocean views. Bathrooms run on the small side, but are well maintained and include tubs. No Wi-Fi is available in the rooms, and use incurs a fee in common areas.
Features
An all-inclusive hotel with major water attractions
Riu Belplaya is an all-inclusive hotel, with room rates that include meals and beverages from two buffet restaurants and the poolside bar. There are three pools on the premises -- a large outdoor pool and children’s pool, and an indoor pool for the winter -- along with petanque lanes and a bowling green. Los Alamos Beach is a two-minute walk from the hotel. Riu Belplaya also has a fitness center and a kids' club, and use of both are included in the all-inclusive rates. Massages are available for an extra fee.
