Bottom Line

The adult-only Angela Hotel is an upper-middle-range property with an attractive location right on the promenade and beach. The hotel provides sunbeds on the beach for a fee, while loungers around the infinity pool area are free for guests. The 261 rooms have sunny decor, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, but there's a charge for mini-fridges. All rooms have furnished balconies, though some pick up nighttime noise. Half-board options are available at the two well-reviewed restaurants, though it's important to note that guests are expected to wear formal attire for dinner service in the main restaurant. Most guests skew toward the older side and evening entertainment caters that age group. It's worth comparing rates with the Hotel IPV Palace & Spa, which has a few more facilities, though it isn't exclusively for adults.

Scene

Adult-only hotel with older crowd

The Angela Hotel has a narrow peach-colored exterior with protruding balconies with red-painted bars. A revolving door leads into the lobby and reception area, which is decked out in marble, potted plants, and a large piece of artwork. Modern furniture includes mostly neutral-tone seating and wooden coffee tables, though a red sofa adds a nice pop of color contrast. These splashes of red carry over into the bar's stylish lounge area, filled with a mix of modern furniture and rich-looking tufted sofas, glass-topped tables, and ornate chandeliers. The dining room, though not quite as elegant looking as the lounge, requires that guests come in formal wear to dinner. Outside, the infinity pool is surrounded by a mix of wicker and plastic seating, and it has views over the sea. The adult-only hotel mostly sees older couples and the evening entertainment is geared toward that age group.

Location

Beachfront hotel on the promenade

Angela Hotel has a prime location on the promenade and along on the beach, too. Guests are in walking distance to countless restaurants, shops, and bars, and a manageable driving distance from some of the area's top spots. Plaza Chinnoros is just a 20-minute walk, and the famous Street Market is a 33-minute walk (or an 11-minute drive). El Torcal Natural Park is an hour-and-15-minute drive, and Gibraltar (90 minutes) and Malaga (34 minutes) aren't too far of a drive, either. Chiringuito Los Naufragos, a casual beachfront dining spot is just a two-minute walk from the hotel, and for those looking for a steak dinner, the well-reviewed Parilla Cosquin is also two minutes by foot. Other notable spots within walking distance include Bar One (two minutes), Bar Mundi (two minutes), and Nuestro Bar (three minutes).

Rooms

Cheerful rooms have balconies, but mini-fridges require a fee

Guests should not expect to see the same elegant furnishings found in the bar area in the rooms at the Angela Hotel, as the only similar feature are the beige tufted headboards. The overall look is a bit dated due to old-fashioned cedar furniture, tile floors, and striped linens in orange, red, and green. However, the colorful fabrics and addition of artwork give the spaces a cheerful, beachy vibe. All rooms have a furnished balcony, some of which overlook the water, but those facing the street may suffer from noise. Previous guests have also complained that some rooms feel a bit cramped, and found the charge to use the mini-fridges to be a notable downside. In addition to mini-fridges, rooms offer free Wi-Fi, in-room safes, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. White marble bathrooms are attractive and either have shower/tub combos or walk-in showers. All come with free bath products, bidets, and hairdryers.

Features

Direct beach access, infinity pool, and two restaurants

Situated on the promenade, the Angela Hotel has an excellent location right on the beach. While cushioned loungers and thatched umbrellas on the beach come at a cost, there are plenty for guests to use. The outdoor pool area is well-sized and includes an infinity-edge pool that looks out over the beach. Plastic loungers here are set back from the pool, farther from the scenic views. An indoor pool, sauna, and massage treatments are also available. The hotel has two restaurants on-site -- the main buffet dining room and the more casual Marina Bay restaurant. Marina Bay is a modern, laid-back space, and it's included in the half-board and full-board options. The hotel's upscale, more formal lounge area is a popular spot, especially during happy hour. There is also a snack bar, and previous guests have said that the food here is good and reasonably priced. Evening entertainment consists of live music, dancing, and magic shows, but previous guests have noted that it caters to an older generation. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
