Popular with families due to its location -- a five-minute walk from Disneyland's main entrance -- the lower-middle-range Grand Legacy at the Park is a budget-friendly property in a former Ramada. Its 199 contemporary rooms were refurbished in 2016 and include attractive amenities such as microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. The hotel also offers a free continental breakfast, a spacious outdoor pool/whirlpool, guest laundry facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Good rates make it a solid choice for Disney families and other tourists, but travelers may want to also consider the mid-range Fairfield Inn Anaheim Resort, a similarly priced alternative in the area.
Scene
Relaxed, family-oriented hotel within view of Disneyland’s main entrance
This family-oriented hotel became an independent property in early 2016 after almost two decades as the Ramada Maingate at the Park. Part of the hotel's 2016 renovations included the addition of a handsome lobby decorated in dark brown and beige tones, with a large wood registration desk with a white marble top. Dark-wood trim frames the ceiling, and brown leather armchairs and upholstered sofas provide comfortable seating. It’s not a large space, and guests don’t tend to linger there upon check in. The real hub of the hotel is the pool surrounded by loungers and palm trees -- both real and fake "sprinkler" versions in a kids' play zone. Another spot to gather is the rooftop bar, where guests can spot Disneyland’s nightly firework display.
Location
In the heart of Anaheim, within walking distance of Disney and a brief drive to the convention center
The Grand Legacy is conveniently located directly across the street (about a five-minute walk) from Disneyland’s main entrance. Numerous restaurants are within a brief walk, including a Denny’s, a Tony Roma’s, an IHOP, and a pizzeria. It’s a seven-minute drive or 18 minutes by bus to the Anaheim Convention Center and an 11-minute walk to the Anaheim GardenWalk. There's a bus stop just outside the hotel and several other hotels in the immediate area. The nearest I-5 on-ramp is about five minutes away, and the Downtown Disney District, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Honda Center, and the Outlets at Orange are all approximately 10 minutes away by car. Knott’s Berry Farm is a 16-minute drive. Sunset Beach and Newport Beach are about half an hour from the hotel, depending on traffic. The John Wayne Airport takes 20 minutes to reach by car while LAX takes 45 minutes or so, traffic permitting.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers
A three-year renovation was completed in 2016, which included upgrades of every room. Though there is some variety, all are tastefully decorated in a contemporary style that emphasizes darker earth tones. Most have beige walls, brown drapes, matching dark-wood furniture, and patterned carpet in beige or light brown. Some rooms have striped bedspreads, while others have bright-white duvets with decorative bed throws. Standard amenities include microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs. Roomy tan-granite vanities are located outside the bathrooms, and some have double sinks. Bathrooms all are around the same size and have shower/tub combos, but some have striking tan tiling, while others feature dark-brown or gray marble. Some have jetted tubs with sliding glass doors, while others have simple white curtains and standard tubs. Most rooms come in King or Double Queen bed options and offer enough space for comfort. Classic (standard) Rooms are 225 square feet, while the Deluxe and Premier Rooms offer more space at 300 and 325 feet, respectively. Two Room Suites (630 square feet) have separate living rooms with sleeper sofas, and Three Room Suites (950 square feet) add second bedrooms and bathrooms. Rooms are generally clean and quiet, but some guests have reported minor housekeeping issues and ambient noise from other rooms. Rooms either face Disneyland or look out over the parking lot/pool area.
Features
Free breakfast, rooftop bar serving food, heated outdoor pool, valet parking, and free Wi-Fi
The Grand Legacy offers a free but basic continental breakfast, but the breakfast room has limited seating, and can feel overcrowded at peak times. Launched in mid-2016, the rooftop bar -- Fifth -- has comfortable seating and fantastic views of the Disneyland fireworks display. The bar offers tacos and other light fare, along with craft cocktails and games including cornhole. Vending machines also are available for snacks and soft drinks.Other property features include a spacious outdoor heated pool in the center of the parking lot with a whirlpool and kids' splash zone, as well as lots of tables and chairs among towering palms. Parking rates are reasonable and include 24/7 valet service, but self-parking spaces are limited. There is no fitness center, but a 24/7 fitness facility is within walking distance. Disney tickets are sold at the front desk, and valet dry cleaning and laundry services are available for those who don't want to do laundry themselves at the on-site coin-operated laundry room. There's also a meeting room on-site, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
