The classic Dutch canal house where this bed-and-breakfast is located dates back to 1660. Like the other brick buildings adjoining the property, it’s tall, narrow, and deep, with a beehive of activity surrounding it. Inside, it’s homey, quiet, and intimate. Big windows and high ceilings keep interiors bright and pleasant illuminating white walls. Dutch tulips are a big part of the decor, either painted on walls or presented in vases. There are several cozy spots to relax, including American diner-like vinyl chairs in vibrant red, white, and blue hues. It’s a relaxed setting with little pretense and no stuffiness, a home with a friendly "lived in" vibe. It’s perfectly suited for couples who prefer a more authentic Dutch experience than the typical chain hotel could offer. Note that children under 6 are not permitted to stay here. 

This bed-and-breakfast is conveniently located in the city center, near Amsterdam's storied canals, Nieuwmarkt Square, and a metro station. Most sights can be easily reached on foot, though, making the metro entirely optional. A wide selection of restaurants, bars, and shops are in the immediate area, including two restaurants in adjoining buildings.

This property offers just two individually decorated rooms. Both are clean, spacious, and cheery, with bright decor that utilizes vibrant colors and the traditional Dutch themes of tulips and windmills. Both rooms have colorful bedspreads, but the doors and ceiling beams in the first-floor room are painted kelly or olive green, while dark wood beams in the second-floor room stay unpainted. Solid blue carpet covers the upper-room floor, while lovely hardwood floors grace the ground-floor room. Walls throughout are painted white, illuminated by the ample light from windows. Thoughtful decorative touches like classic Dutch wooden shoes enhance the spaces' homey charm. 

Rooms are equipped with small dining tables, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, Nespresso coffeemakers, and mini-fridges with free beverages that are replenished daily. Plenty of storage space is provided, and the double beds can be separated into two twins upon request. Bathrooms are small and narrow but functional, with showers and simple white ceramic sinks. Cole & Lewis toiletries are provided. 

Rooms are located in the rear of the building, insulating them from noise. But their placement also means they lack any canal views. They overlook the inner courtyard or adjacent buildings. 

As expected for a true bed-and-breakfast, this property serves a full hot breakfast that includes made-to-order omelets, cold cuts, cheeses, fruit, and many other items. Guests also have access to a stocked fridge for snacks during the day, and an espresso machine is available in the kitchen as well. The homey kitchen has a four-person table for breakfast, and the inner courtyard has seating as well. 

The property's hosts are multilingual and provide concierge-style services and advice. They will also help carry luggage to the second-floor room that requires climbing a steep and narrow staircase. Parking options are limited and expensive in this part of central Amsterdam, so guests arriving by car are advised to contact the operators for assistance in securing parking. Wi-Fi is free and accessible throughout the property.
