Scene

Housed in a 19th-century building with pleasant, homey interiors

Housed in a 19th-century brick-faced building in a picturesque area by the Amstel River, the Bridge Hotel features homey interiors that mix traditional and contemporary decor. The marble-lined lobby is a pleasant and functional space, if a bit bland, with a potbelly iron stove occupying the corner next to a black leather couch. Hallways are lined with slightly institutional green linoleum, but are bright and airy thanks to a huge curved glass brick wall on one of the main staircases. The breakfast lounge has wooden tables, chairs, and a bar, with Dutch soccer paraphernalia adorning a crimson wall as well as large vintage liquor posters.

Location

Located by the Amstel River with views of the Skinny Bridge and within walking distance of some sights

The hotel is situated on a beautiful and quiet street lined with traditional brick buildings, right by the Amstel River. The hotel takes its name from the famous Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge), which is just down the block. This residential area is a picturesque spot with lots of little canals leading into the river. There are several restaurants, bars, and shops a short walk away, and some tourist sights can be reached on foot as well, such as the Flower Market, Rembrandtplein, and Waterlooplein, all about 10 minutes from the hotel. Dam Square and the Museum Quarter are a bit farther away and can be reached in 20 minutes. There is a tram stop at the end of the street as well as a metro station that's a five-minute walk away. Schiphol Airport can be reached in 30 minutes via public transportation.

Rooms

Simple, contemporary rooms as well as apartments with kitchens and living rooms

Rooms at the hotel are spacious and pleasant, with contemporary decor and eclectic furnishings like director-style folding chairs and brushed steel lockers, which give the spaces a bit of a hip, dorm-like feel. Some rooms have small, private balconies with tables and chairs and picturesque views over the river and street. All have TVs, though some of these are old tube-style instead of flat-screens, as well as work desks, phones, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are standard, tiled in white, with walk-in showers. Rooms include Single Rooms, Three-Bedded Rooms, Four-Bedded Rooms, and two Apartments on the top floor with fully equipped kitchens and living rooms.

Features

Dutch breakfast buffet included in room rate, bike rental and storage, plus free tea and coffee available in lobby

The small breakfast lounge and bar is filled with a few wooden tables and provides a pleasant place to fill up on the free Dutch breakfast buffet, which includes bread, fruit, cheese, yogurt, boiled eggs, and other cold options. Free tea and coffee is also available throughout the day. The hotel rents bikes and provides storage for them, and offers a computer and printer for guests' use in the breakfast area, as well as laundry service. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Guests should note that there is no elevator and rooms are located across five floors.
