Bottom Line

Hotel
Seven one Seven is an upscale hotel with an exclusive ambiance
located right on the Prinsengracht canal. It occupies a beautifully restored canalside mansion dating back centuries. The
nine guest rooms are
tastefully decorated with period furniture, original artworks, and
objets d'art, and feature seating areas, minibars, flat-screen TVs,
DVD players, and free Wi-Fi. The atmosphere here is more like a posh private residence rather than a
hotel. Notable extras include a cozy library with a fireplace and a free breakfast. But the hotel's intimate size also means it's missing several of the usual upscale amenities, like a full restaurant or bar. Another luxury boutique hotel worth considering could be the Canal House, which has swanky and spacious rooms, and an on-site
stylish bar.

Scene

Romantic atmosphere in a canalside mansion

Hotel
Seven one Seven is a lovely four-story canalside house with a facade
of tall, narrow windows, located on Prinsengracht, one of Amsterdam's
three main canals. This was once the home of a wealthy sugar trader
who lived here in the 17th century and opened a sugar
mill in the rear building. Centuries later in 1997, Hotel Seven one Seven opened. Today, the
atmosphere here is more of a romantic bed-and-breakfast than a hotel.
Past the front door (which is opened by a member of
staff), the interiors reflect a posh personal
residence. The entrance hallway has elegant marble floors and the
walls are decorated with oil paintings. Rooms on the ground floor
are public spaces where guests can relax and mingle. The charming
library is a beautiful room with tall ceilings, a large bookcase,
fireplace, and hardwood floors, filled with period furniture and
antique-style objects. The hotel's romantic atmosphere makes it
especially popular with couples, who make up most of the guests
staying here.

Location

On Prinsengracht canal in central Amsterdam

The
hotel is located on Prinsengracht, one of the three main canals of
the inner canal ring. This is one of Amsterdam's best-known streets
lined with beautiful canal houses. Neighboring buildings mostly house
residential apartments and businesses. This is the heart of the city
center, with many bars, cafes, and restaurants within easy walking
distance. Many of the city's most popular museums and tourist
attractions are also within walking distance, like Anne Frank House,
the Rijks Museum, and Van Gogh Museum.- Seven-minute walk to the Rijks Museum

  • Seven-minute walk to Vondel Park
  • 10-minute walk to Amsterdam Museum
  • 13-minute walk to Van Gogh Museum
  • 15-minute walk to Anne Frank House
  • 15-minute walk to the Royal Palace

Rooms

Elegant rooms decorated in a classic, timeless style

The
nine guest rooms at Hotel Seven one Seven are named after famous
composers, writers, and artists, like Stravinsky, Tolkien, and
Picasso. Rooms are spacious, with the smallest room, Mahler,
covering 430 square feet of floor space, while most rooms are 538
square meters, and the largest rooms are Schubert and Picasso, at 753
square meters. All the rooms are decorated in a similar style,
with walls painted in soft tones of gray, beige, or ivory, and sofas
and armchairs upholstered in complementary colors of taupe, brown,
and navy blue. The classic and elegant look is further enhanced by
elegant period furniture, paintings and objets d'art, and many lamps
providing soft mood-lighting. All
the rooms have sitting areas, and are equipped with flat-screen TVs,
DVD players, free Wi-Fi, and minibars. The bathrooms are
spacious and luxurious, with rainfall showerheads, and Chopard
toiletries. Most feature walk-in showers, while two guest rooms have
shower/tub combos -- and in some rooms, the toilets are separate from
the bathrooms. Some rooms have windows overlooking the canal -- but
these rooms can also experience ambient street noise.

Features

Free continental breakfast, library, lounge, and courtyard patio

As a smaller guest-house-style hotel, Seven on Seven is lacking some of the usual upscale amenities, such as a full restaurant, spa, or gym. But little luxe perks are in generous supply. The
free breakfast is continental but also includes hot egg dishes on
request, and is served in the pleasant breakfast room overlooking the
courtyard patio. During the summer months, breakfast is served
outdoors, and guests can also request for breakfast to be served in
their rooms. The library and lounge on the ground floor are elegant
rooms featuring a cozy fireplace and books. The library and the
outdoor patio are the only places where smoking is allowed, and the
breakfast room and library can also be booked for special events and
meetings. Guests are free to borrow CDs and DVDs from the library to
enjoy in their rooms. Staff can also assist guests with booking
in-room spa treatments, restaurant reservations, tickets for the
theater and museums, private trainers, and babysitters. The free
Wi-Fi connection is available throughout the hotel.
