The Hotel Roemer is a 38-room, upscale boutique property set in two town houses opposite each other on a quiet street, within an easy walk of Vondelpark and the Leidseplein tourist area. The atmosphere is tasteful and refined -- public spaces have an open-plan style that connects them seamlessly, punctuated by outstanding pieces of modern art. Rooms, which include Triples and Quadruples, are a mix of modern and classic decor, with plush carpets, spot lighting, and traditional furniture. All include air-conditioning, Nespresso machines, minibars, and rainfall showers. The Roemer has a small but stylish restaurant and bar (the bar operates on an honor system), and a meeting room. Travelers could also compare rates with the four-pearl Hotel Vondel, a partner hotel in the same area.
Scene
Boutique hotel with a refined yet cozy vibe
Situated in two 18th-century town houses directly across the street from each other, the Hotel Roemer is a boutique property with modern, fresh decor. The property has a refined, exclusive air but is not pretentious. The lobby, bar, and restaurant connect to one another in an open plan, but each has its own character. Plush purple rugs provide a rich foil to the white walls and white molded chairs. A chandelier made from swing-arm lamps provides another dramatic detail. But the most striking embellishments are the great pieces of modern art, including paintings and sculptures, found throughout the hotel, with different pieces in each room. While the property caters to leisure travelers and couples, the hotel offers a range of room sizes, such as Triple and Quadruple Rooms, making it very suitable for families or small groups as well.
Location
In a quiet but convenient location with easy access to Amsterdam sights
The hotel is located on a street lined with beautiful residential town houses and a few other small hotels. Vondelpark and the canal ring are within a two- or three-minute walk from the hotel, and shops, restaurants, bars, and transportation links can be found in the tourist area of Leidseplein, about a five-minute walk away. The Museum Quarter, which includes the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, is about an eight-minute walk from the hotel. The Anne Frank House is about nine minutes away via public transportation, while the Dam Square, which is part of Amsterdam’s historic district, is about 12 minutes away via public transportation. The Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat tram station is a four-minute walk, and other tram and bus stations are within walking distance. Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is about a half-hour away. Be aware that the hotel has no on-site parking.
Rooms
Stylish rooms with Nespresso machines, minibars, and rainfall showers
Rooms at the Hotel Roemer are split between two buildings, which are directly opposite each other. The second building added 15 rooms to the property in 2015. Rooms range in size from the tiny Double Small to spacious Suites and roomy Quadruples. All are modern, and decorated in neutral colors. Gray wall-to-wall carpeting meets cream-colored walls, while headboards in purple or gold add colorful, modern accents. Modern art adorns the walls of each room. All rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, hairdryers, safes, minibars, Nespresso machines, and electric tea kettles. Bathrooms are chic with black-and-white color-blocked tiling and wet-room style showers with rainfall showerheads. Some of the larger rooms have balconies, sitting areas, desks, or whirlpool tubs. Rooms are well-insulated, but guests have occasionally complained about noise from the street or other rooms. The second building does not have a lobby area, and although the two buildings are close, guests in the second building have to leave their building to visit the lobby, restaurant, and bar of the main building.
