Hotel Atlantis

The Hotel Atlantis is housed in a four-floor brick building, set on a tree-lined street in Amsterdam's lively De Pijp, a funky bohemian neighborhood filled with shops, bars, and sidewalk cafes. The Atlantis's lobby is a modern, uncluttered space, as is its sunny breakfast area, with hardwood floors, large windows, and attractive red accents. There's a cheery, upbeat atmosphere at this boutique property, and it tends to draw leisure travelers who want reasonably priced accommodations in a laid-back locale outside the city center.  

The Hotel Atlantis is situated in De Pijp, south of the city center. Many local attractions can be reached on foot or by bicycle. It's also convenient to public transit, as the Van Woustraat bus and tram stop is across the street, and Ceintuurbaan bus and tram stop is a one-minute walk away. The Atlantis is a two-minute walk from the Amstel River, Nieuwe Amstelbrug Bridge, and Huis met de Kabouters, and the leafy Sarphatipark park is just three minutes on foot. 

The open-air Albert Cuyp Market has more than 300 stalls and is billed as the busiest market in Holland -- it’s a five-minute walk from the hotel. The Heineken Experience brewery tour is just north of the market, about a 12-minute walk. Sights including the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum of modern art, and Rijksmuseum take roughly 10 minutes by tram. Wibautstraat metro station is 10 minutes by tram or about a 13-minute walk, Amsterdam Centraal station is 20 minutes by tram, and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is 20 minutes by car from the Atlantis or 25 minutes by metro from Wibautstraat. 

Guest rooms at the Hotel Atlantis have a basic, contemporary look. Some are a bit bland, with bare walls and a white-and-gray color palette, while others have a little more visual appeal, with colorful wallpaper and modern artwork as accents. Rooms are generally well-maintained, but they don't have air-conditioning, and fans provided by the hotel don’t always cool spaces adequately in summer. 

All units have desks, flat-screen TVs (with English language stations), safes, electric kettles for instant coffee and tea, and free Wi-Fi, but there are no mini-fridges. Some feature private or shared balconies overlooking the street, or ground-floor shared or private terraces with tables and chairs. Bathrooms are tidy, and their style matches decor in rooms. All come with shower/tub combos, heated towel racks, hairdryers, and wall-mounted dispensers for soap and shampoo. 

As a budget hotel, the Atlantis has few property features. It serves a continental breakfast buffet for an extra charge, with hard-boiled eggs, cold cuts, cereal, and range of other cold items. The spread gets mostly good reviews from guests, but some have complained about the price given the so-so quality and limited variety. There is no full-service restaurant on-site for lunch and dinner, but several restaurants are within a short walk. There's also no fitness room, but the Atlantis offers luggage storage, a vending machine, airport transfer (for a fee), and on-site parking (for a fee). The front desk is open 24 hours a day, with the staff very generous with its tourist assistance, and there's a lobby computer. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. Unlike many other Amsterdam hotels, the hotel has an elevator, and the building is well-adapted for guests with limited mobility.
