Situated on the bustling Damrak, Delta Hotel Amsterdam City Centre features a stellar location in the heart of Amsterdam, just a five-minute walk from Centraal Station and its trains and trams. Dam Square is a short stroll southwest of the hotel. Like many in the area, the Delta is a simple tourist hotel and nothing more. It offers a free breakfast and free Wi-Fi in public spaces. Rates are affordable, but the hotel needs a serious update and better maintenance, and lacks the quality and facilities of similarly rated nearby hotels like Hotel Luxer or Hotel Prins Hendrik.
Scene
Tired hotel in need of renovation
Situated on the busy Damrak, the six-floor Delta is housed in an older building with a retro neon sign and red-and-white striped awnings. Public spaces are furnished and decorated in a fairly nondescript way typical of budget hotels. The breakfast restaurant has bright colors, wood furniture, and booths. The whole hotel is in need of renovations. Furnishings are tired, carpets are dirty, and there are mold and odor issues in the rooms.
Location
In the heart of Amsterdam, within a short stroll of Centraal Station
The Delta is in the heart of Amsterdam on the city's main street, Damrak. It's an incredibly busy street at all times of the day with tourists and traffic. The street is lined with restaurants, hotels, and tourist shops. The hotel is a five-minute walk from Centraal Station, Dam Square, and Nieuwe Kerk church. The Anne Frank House and Westerkerk can be reached within 15 minutes by foot. The Museum Quarter (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum) is a bit too far to walk, but can be reached via public transportation in around 15 minutes. Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is 11 miles southwest of the hotel.
Rooms
Basic rooms with noise and cleanliness issues
The 48 rooms at the Delta are spread among six floors, and measure 160 square feet each. Decor is generic and uninspiring, with burgundy or navy blue carpeting, white walls, and simple artwork. Bathrooms could use a refresh, as mold issues have been reported by guests. Some bathrooms have showers only. All rooms offer safes and flat-panel TVs, but little else in the way of amenities. Irons can be borrowed from the front desk, but there are no coffeemakers in any of the rooms. Smoking is allowed in some rooms. In general, rooms are in bad condition and have problems with poor maintenance, odors, and dirty and/or wet carpets. Guests in rooms closer to the street may experience noise issues.
Features
Free breakfast, but fee other amenities
The hotel has a restaurant, but few other property amenities. The free breakfast is solid if unspectacular, and comes with hot eggs, cooked meats, cereal, cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, coffee, juice, and more. Parking is available, but costs extra. Note that cars are picked up at the hotel but taken to a lot that is not on the premises.
