The 46-room Seaside Amelia Inn is a lower-middle-range property located along Fernandina Beach on Florida's Amelia Island. Contemporary rooms are sunny and bright, and come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, and air-conditioning; many also have balconies with views of the ocean or, less appealingly, of the tiny courtyard pool. Features include a free hot Southern breakfast, Wi-Fi, and a meeting room, but no gym or full restaurant. In addition to the small pool -- which lacks directly adjacent loungers -- the hotel offers a limited number of oceanfront sunbeds. Travelers looking for something a bit snazzier may want to consider Elizabeth Pointe Lodge instead, though it lacks a pool.
Scene
Beachfront inn with contemporary, albeit generic, common areas
The Seaside Amelia Inn is a sunny property right on the beach. Neither the exteriors nor the interiors of this three-story building are particularly striking, with light-gray siding on the exterior and a simple lobby featuring a small seating area with patterned chairs, a fireplace, and a few generic landscape paintings by local artists on the wall. There's a tiny seating area just outside with a few patio tables and chairs, plus a second indoor lounge area next to the rooftop sunbathing deck. The only other proper common area is the breakfast room, which has two-tone wooden chairs and tables topped with flower vases. While there is a meeting room, most guests are vacationing couples who want easy beach access.
Location
Beachfront location, a short walk from Fort Clinch State Park
The Seaside Amelia is located right on the coast in Fernandina Beach, where the oceanfront A1A and Highway 200 converge. It's right next to the main beach park and a six-minute walk to the local "Pirate Playground." The main entrance of Fort Clinch State Park is a three-minute walk away. There's a restaurant next door, but dining at other restaurants will require driving about five minutes. The main historic town center is five minutes away and has lots of shops and eateries. It's about a 40-minute drive to the Jacksonville International Airport. Parking is free.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with lots of blue decor and furnished balconies
The Seaside Amelia Inn offers a variety of contemporary rooms and suites, all with lots of blue decor that hints at the hotel's beachfront setting. They're outfitted with dark wavy-striped carpets, light-wood furniture, light-blue bedspreads, and cheesy patterned curtain-style toppers over windows, which are otherwise shaded with mini-blinds. Amenities include -- at a minimum -- wall-mounted flat-screen TVs with premium cable, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Bathrooms feature roomy walk-in showers and miniature bottles of toiletries are provided. All have furnished balconies, with views of the pool or ocean. The 380-square-foot (116-square-meter) Ground Floor Suite is pet-friendly (for a fee).
Features
Free hot Southern breakfast, small pool, and loungers on the beach
The Seaside Amelia Inn offers a decent number of amenities for a smaller hotel, but there are no gym or full restaurant. Breakfast is included in room rates and includes hot Southern specialties such as grits, eggs, sausage, pancakes, and a smattering of continental items. There's also a small sundries shop selling snacks and soft drinks, along with some frozen meals. The small outdoor pool is located in the courtyard and has a lower deck with some seating and lounge chairs. The hotel has a limited number of chairs but no umbrellas on the beach, as well as a small sundeck on the roof with lovely ocean views. Other features include free hotel-wide Wi-Fi, a business corner with a computer and a printer for guest use, and a small boardroom for up to 10 people.
