Bottom Line

Hotel Miramare's location — within a 10-minute walk to the beach and the center of Positano — is hard to beat. The décor is crisp and welcoming, and rooms have amazing views of the Gulf of Salerno. Given its location on a cliff, guests should expect to do a lot of walking up and down stairs, but this is the norm in the area. Although there's no pool and the property lacks the luxury of hotels such as the Villa Fiorentino or Il San Pietro up the road, the Miramare’s convenient central location makes it a great value.

Location

Easy walk to shops, restaurants, and beach

As with most hotels in the area, there are many stairs involved to get anywhere from the Miramare, although with this in mind, it is about as central as you can get. It's about 200 steps above the beach and the main square of Positano and 100 steps below the main road and parking lot. The hotel is far enough above the beach that the noise from people and boats is more of a hum than a nuisance.

Rooms

Full of narrow hallways, archways, and balconies with views

The balconies — some of which have a lounge area with tables and chairs — are the highlight of the rooms, all of which also come with a small flat-screen TV and clean bathrooms with colorful, hand-painted tiles. The heavy wood doors, dressers, and night stands create a sense of cosiness, but the walls are sparsely decorated. There is a separate, multi-room apartment with an enormous terrace that's available for families and large groups.

Features

No pool or in-room Internet, but free daily boat trips and concierge services

There is no pool area or outdoor public dining at the Miramare. The breakfast buffet is bountiful and fresh, and is served in a room with large windows with sea views. The Internet connection is limited and the cocktail bar area is small. A big bonus is the daily free boat trip into the sparkling blue sea. Hotel staff can help arrange day trips and give restaurant recommendations.
