Scene

A tiny bed-and-breakfast that feels like a private Mediterranean residence

Perched on a steep mountainside overlooking the Mediterranean, Mamma Rosa feels a world away from busy Positano. Built in the 1960s by the current owner’s grandfather as a private residence, the property retains a strong local feel, with stone walls, arched windows looking out onto the sea, clay tiles, and lots of paintings and traditional Mediterranean painted plates displayed throughout the house. Turned into a bed-and-breakfast in the early 2010s, friendly Mamma Rosa has quickly become a favorite among couples looking to stay away from the touristy areas of Positano while still being within a short distance of all the attractions and beaches that make the area one of the most coveted in Italy.
The house has two rooms (each with a balcony overlooking the sea) and a common living room next to an open kitchen where a delicious homemade breakfast is served every morning. The living room is decorated in traditional Mediterranean style, with simple wooden furniture, a couple of couches, and a brick fireplace. Spacious rooms are a little more elegant than common spaces, with more sophisticated classic wooden furniture, and an off-white and beige palette. Facing directly west, Mamma Rosa offers breathtaking sea views from all common spaces and rooms, which is one of the reasons the property is so popular despite its simple style and small size. The area is tremendously steep and the main door is about 220 steps from the street, so those with special mobility requirements may want to stay elsewhere.

Location

A short walk from quaint Montepertuso, and a 15-minute drive from Positano

This bed-and-breakfast is located in a quiet residential area dotted with lemon groves, vineyards, and vegetable gardens right outside Montepertuso, a quaint little mountain village home to a handful or restaurants, bars and shops. Positano, one of the best-known towns on the Amalfi Coast, is just a 15-minute bus ride or drive away. In Positano, guests can find more restaurants, lovely Santa Maria Assunta Church, a beach, and a small harbor. The area is also known for its great hiking trails with panoramic ocean views, including the famous Path of the Gods, which is just a short drive from B&B Mamma Rosa Positano. There is a bus stop right by the property, which makes exploring the region easy and cheap.

Rooms

Spacious, airy rooms with classic decor and stunning sea views

B&B Mamma Rosa Positano only has two rooms, both clean and decorated in simple classic style with a beige palette and wooden furniture. Both rooms are spacious and light, with large windows opening onto furnished balconies offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding rugged landscape. Amenities are basic but modern, and include free Wi-Fi, small flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, electric kettles, safes, and hairdryers. Each room has its own private bathroom with either a shower (Divina Room) or a tub (Perla Room), but they’re both in the hallway, which some may find less comfortable. Heating is available during the colder months for an extra fee.
