Mauger Estate B&B

The upper-to-mid-range Mauger B&B occupies a restored Queen Anne-style building dating back to 1897 -- making it likely that this was the first building in Albuquerque to have electricity. William E. Mauger and his wife Brittania, a prominent Boston family, bought the home in 1907 and ran a wool-purchasing business out of it until the 1920s. The bed and breakfast business began in 1987 under new ownership.Today, Tammy Walden runs the B&B -- and it's her service, culinary talents, and friendliness that keeps guests coming back. Of course, the decor and unique charm of the building help too -- being that it's unlike any other hotel in Albuquerque. Many of the original features prevail -- such as glass etchings and finely detailed wood working. Plus, historic photographs and early 1900s-era furniture add extra historical intrigue throughout public areas and the rooms. The inn features a cozy front porch, a parlor/sitting room, a beautiful indoor-outdoor dining room, and a sunny breakfast room in what was once the home's sleeping porch.Although typical hotel services such as a pool, spa, or fitness center (a fitness center option is offered via two partner businesses) are missing, the charms of this B&B cannot be found elsewhere.

The Mauger B&B is located in a residential neighborhood across the street from an elementary school. Downtown Albuquerque is within walking distance, and Old Town is about one mile away. Off-street parking is available for guests with cars.Sitting along the Rio Grande at an elevation of 5,312 feet, Albuquerque occupies a high-desert environment. Albuquerque hosts the International Balloon Fiesta each October, an event that is arguably one of the most photographed in the world. Local hot air balloon companies offer rides to visitors year round.As a four-season city with 300 sunny days a year, Albuquerque has an active community of golfers, hikers, skiers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and fishermen. The Sandia Mountains to the east provide a high-altitude respite from the summer heat and many miles of forested trails, and a winter playground featuring Sandia Peak Ski Area. Any visit to Albuquerque is incomplete without a ride on the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway, the longest tram in the world, ascending 2.7 miles from the outskirts of the city to the Sandia Mountains at 10,378 feet.Whatever you do in the outdoors here, be sure to stay well-hydrated -- mild temperatures can be deceiving, and the high elevation can take its toll even on the fittest adventurers.- 15-minute drive to Albuquerque International Airport

Each of the Mauger B&B’s eight rooms is uniquely decorated, mixing modern style with traditional elements in keeping with the property's history. Divided across the three floors, the rooms vary from spacious (the Exotic Suite) to compact (the 3rd Floor Queen Rooms), but each provides a comfortable, "like-home" place to stay. Pets are welcome here too -- a 1st Floor Queen Room offers doggie-specific amenities (free biscuits and a dog bowl) and is customized with a doggy door leading to a lovely private yard.- No in-room safes
