Bottom Line

Located atop a hill in the outskirts of Alanya, the Diamond Hill is an upper-middle-range urban hotel catering to couples and families. Its 312 rooms have Ottoman-inspired decor, flat-screen TVs with international channels, and minibars stocked with sodas and water (only the latter is replenished daily, though). The spa is small but pleasant, offering various treatments, plus a hammam, sauna, and steam room that guests can use for free. There have been some complaints of repetitive food at the buffet, but there is also a great a la carte Turkish restaurant where guests can have dinner once per stay free of charge. There are several on-site amenities, including a private stretch of beach just down the street. However, those looking for a true beach resort experience in this price range may prefer the White City Resort Hotel.

Scene

Compact city hotel with resort-style amenities and a quiet vibe

Housed in a large white-and-blue building, the Diamond Hill offers in one small plot of land all the amenities expected of larger beach resorts. Its compact grounds lack green areas, and although the pool deck features plenty of loungers, some guests find it overcrowded during peak season. However, the hotel houses a wide array of leisure-oriented features, from a spa and shops to an indoor pool. One of the most attractive perks of the hotel is proximity to a sandy beach. The Diamond Hill is located at the top of a steep hill a couple of blocks from the sea, but there is a private bridge with an elevator that puts guests just a short block from its own stretch of sand. Soft entertainment is available on-site (darts, aqua gym, table tennis) and there is always some live music or performance in the evening, but the vibe is peaceful overall and better suited for those wanting to unwind than for travelers expecting loud music and pool games. The atmosphere was relaxing when we visited in the off-peak season, but it is a little louder around the pool in July and August, when guests are mostly Russian and British families with young children. Elegant interiors contrast with the laid-back atmosphere, in particular the lobby, which is decorated with a thick red-and-beige carpet, wood paneling, tufted plum armchairs, and classic wooden coffee tables. Throughout, large windows let in lots of light and offer expansive views of the pool and of the sea between the surrounding buildings. The Diamond Hill is a good pick for those wanting an all-inclusive vacation in an urban environment. However, travelers looking to get the full beach resort experience -- complete with big gardens, direct access to the beach, several dining options, and a more extensive entertainment program -- may prefer the White City Resort Hotel, which has similar rates. Those with some cash to spare may want to consider the Sentido Gold Island, which features separate adult-only and kid-friendly areas, and a more comprehensive all-inclusive package. Located within easy walking distance of Alanya’s top attractions and beach, Kleopatra Atlas Hotel is a good alternative for travelers on a tighter budget.

Location

Quiet beachfront area, a 15-minute drive from central Alanya

The Diamond Hill is located atop a steep hill in a quiet residential area in the outskirts of Alanya. There are a few casual restaurants and bars, as well as a handful of small shops, within easy walking distance, but little else of general interest can be found in the neighborhood. The beach is just a couple of blocks down the street, and the hotel has a bridge with an elevator taking guests directly to street level from the pool for those who don’t want to walk up the hill. The city of Alanya -- known for its hopping nightlife, many restaurants and shops, and lovely Kleopatra Beach -- can be reached in about 15 minutes by car. Major attractions in Alanya, including its stunning medieval castle, the Damlatas Caves, and the 13th-century Red Tower, are all within a 20-minute drive of the hotel. Gazipasa Airport is about a half-hour drive away, but many more airlines fly to Antalya International Airport, located about two hours from the Diamond Hill.

Rooms

Ottoman-style rooms with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars, but no kettles

Diamond Hill Resort Hotel has a total of 312 rooms, all housed in one big, 10-story building. Rooms are spacious and attractive, outfitted with Ottoman-inspired decor that combines navy-and-silver comforters with silver tufted headboards, metallic-gold round pillows, and beige accents. Cream-colored wallpaper with concentric circle motifs and matching carpets make rooms feel cozy and warm, while contemporary furniture with white and wood panels, and backlit ceiling and wall moldings lend them a fresh, stylish look. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto furnished balconies, many offering great sea and city views. Amenities are decent for the price, and include flat-screen TVs with international channels, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and safes. Minibars are stocked with large bottles of soda and water, but only the latter is replenished after the first day. Electric kettles are not provided. Bathrooms are clean and functional, with white and black textured tiles throughout, shower stalls, and small, black counters. Basic toiletries such as shower gel, shampoo, and hand soap are provided in all rooms, as are wall-mounted hairdryers. The hotel has a small number of Economy Rooms, which lack balconies and have low ceilings. These rooms are located on the first floor and don’t have elevator access.

Features

Indoor and outdoor pools, well-equipped fitness center, and pleasant spa

The hotel has a large, seasonal outdoor pool with a separate kiddy section on a large deck with a good number of loungers and a few umbrellas. There is some music during activities, but the atmosphere is generally relaxing. Some guests have pointed out that it is difficult to find a lounger after breakfast during peak season, though this only seems to be a problem a couple of weeks per year. There are two small waterslides for kids, and a spacious bar serves drinks and hot and cold snacks throughout the day under a big roof. The heated indoor pool opens only in the winter. It is small but pleasant enough for a few laps or a quick splash with the children. There is a separate plunge pool for toddlers, as well as a handful of loungers and big windows overlooking the grounds. The adjacent fitness center features a good array of cardio and strength-training machines in a small room with views of the outdoor pool. The equipment is in good shape, there’s natural light, and music is piped through speakers, making it a good spot for a full workout. The spa is small but lovely, with a faint eucalyptus smell, neon lights of different (soft) colors, and lots of wood and stone accents. All guests get free access to a hammam, sauna, and steam room, and body treatments and salon services can be booked for a fee. Although there is no full kids’ club, the entertainment team organizes outdoor activities for children in the summer, and there is also a small playground in a shaded area with city views and fake-grass floors.

All-Inclusive / Food

Buffet and a la carte options, and a rooftop lounge

Diamond Hill Resort Hotel has one main buffet restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a large dining room with outdoor seating. The spread is large and there are weekly themed evenings, but some guests have complained that it can get repetitive after a few days. There is only one a la carte restaurant on-site, serving traditional Turkish cuisine for dinner only. Guest staying at least seven nights can have dinner free of charge once per stay. The 10th-floor rooftop bar has striking panoramic views of the sea, the mountains, and the city of Alanya, including its famous castle. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are served daily here, and there are water pipes available for a fee.The all-inclusive rate covers all local and a few imported drinks, as well as all food and snacks available at the main restaurant and the poolside bar. Room service is provided 24/7 for an additional charge.
